Observer...Bayside is out...because they split in head to head competition, so it goes to strength of schedule. Both teams beat Salem, but Tallwood will now have a victory over Kellam. Unfortunately, Kellam's mess up cost Bayside a chance.
i have read this thread several times and am even saddened more now that this has happened. i agree with most posts both ways. coach jones and the kellam administration made a huge error that could very well have an impact on the last tourney seed. (eagle-one...i like your opine on this one)
to those that posted early and wanted sanctions and penalities levied on coach jones...as hard to believe as you might find it...this was done unintentionally and i think your off base.
doc,
you seem to "know for a fact" way too much ! please be very careful in the future of what you think you know ?

I dont think this has as much to do with coach StClair as it does the consequenses for Bayside. So if this ruling automatically knocks Bayside out of contention then VHSL should step in. I wonder if they are aware of the situation concerning the consequences in a situation like this? with a team on the bubble like Bayside. I would (if I had a choice) vote for a one game suspension like someone said earlier next season. But to automatically ruin a teams chances by a stupid thing like this is rediculus.(sp) Whos seniors will it hurt more- Baysides no question.Let the boys play and decide it all on the field.
Sorry Lynn but Go ODU and MWC!!!

someone said in a quote earlier that one game doesn't make a difference. just because kellam has to forfeit it is their fault? teams decide their own fate plain and simple. how about when tallwood just beat bayside. blame bayside for not winning and not getting in. so coach jones made a mistake. AS A PLAYER FOR HIM I really dont blame the guy. you know nothing about him. he is the most pumped coach on a game day. he didnt think about playing bethel. he knew it was a nice day for ball and was so excited he had nothing else on his mind. and for those of you saying he should be treated like every other player when he makes a mistake. he did go out and run poles. he did do field duty by himself. so if you have something to say come to kellam around three o'clock and say it to his face. sure i fell bad for the teams that might not get in because we have to forfeit, but if they would have just played and decided their own fate and not have it rest on someone elses shoulders, then we wouldnt be having this problem. and for those of you who say it is hurting us as his players as well, your sick, we've been through adversity all year. we play against 11 people and get the wrost calls. this is just another hurdle we already hopped. so lets just leave it alone. remember what i said, YOU CHOOSE YOUR OWN FATE, SO TAKE IT INTO YOUR OWN HANDS.
Driller you seem to want to tell me what I can say way to ofton. Please don't tell others what they can and can't say.
dano21,
Please stop crying and blaming the umpires. It's always the umpires fault. I'm sure your team never kicks the ball around or don't hit

Doc,
Of course a team has kicked the ball around or not hit but that is kinda what he means when he says take it in your own hands. Has kellam been knocking down the fence....no does each player have a 1.000 fielding average...no but what team does, thats baseball. You can tell the teams who have been doing what it takes to win by simply looking at the standings.

1943 Yanks,
I agree with you wholeheartedly. GO VWC and ODU!
Doc,
How do you know for a fact that it was not an honest mistake?

Doc,
I will quote you from a post you made on May 13th. "Unless you have personnel first hand information why don't you just drop it" This was in response to comments about Shows. Why don't you follow your own advise.
Craig,
Don't ever feel you need to say you're sorry for an intelligent, non-aggressive opinion. I do think you are dead wrong to hold a team or coach accountable next year. Remember, some of these coaches may not even be coaching. I believe they don't sign a contract until July 1.
Dano(50/50),
Not surprised that Coach Jones ran his poles. He will hold himself accountable just like he will hold his players accountable. I would never expect anything less.

For all you people who can do nothing more than hide behind a pseudonym making outrageous accusations about things in the distant past, such as this Tallwood/Kellam debacle, all I can say is stop worrying about it;What happened happened, and there is nothing anyone can do about it at this point except maybe complain like you are eight years old again. Although St. Claire and I may not have seen eye to eye on everything, one thing that I cannot deny him is the respect as a baseball coach he has earned. Contrary to what many selfish fence-dwellers may believe, he knows exactly what he is doing over there in the third base coaches box. As a coach on and off the field, he is extremely meticulous, sledom missing any details, regardless of how seemingly negligible. What happened was an honest mistake. I know this because I have taken into account everything that may have impacted the situation. For one thing, St. Claire is simply not the kind of person to do that. He has always taught that baseball is life, and he always teaches his players to have respect for the game, and he has far too much respect for the game to try and fineagle something for his team. For another thing, Kellam had nothing to gain by doing this, only something to lose. They have lost a seed or two for the district tournament as well as the opportunity to compete in one more game of baseball, which I gaurantee is the only thing crossing the minds of all the players. And it amuses me to realize how mature the players are in their reactions to such unfortunate occurrences, compared to the childish hissyfits the parents throw.
What I have done here is taken a glance into the past and given my opinion, but now all I will do is look ahead to the district tournament and even further into my future as a college student, becasue ultimately our childish hissyfits will accomplish absolutely nothing except for a loss of respect for those who post such immature replies. All I have left are two words for Hsbaseball and Doc, GROW UP

Once again, you have impressed me with your character and maturity. I hope the parents learn something from you and their athletes. I'm not sure what the future holds for the Beach tournament - but I know that your's is bright!

My thought is that Tallwood would've won anyway.
However, Kellem did break the rules, resulting in a forfeiture and a monetary fine from the VHSL. I think Tallwood ends up with the greatest penalty - last home game canceled due to coaches inability to count. I agree with the idea that Kellam's coach should be banned from the beach district tournament.

Screwball,
Very absurd and immature comments. Go play the game on the field.

Hey Lynn, I need to proof read before I hit "send". Sorry was referring to the fact that I am rooting for Mary Washington tonight instead of VWC!
cox 4 - salem 2
aaron mania, jeremy bordoux, and brett walker dominated salems offense today. rbis for cox by malbon, martin, and stenger. Spears started for salem and pitched 5 good innings. buffington came in the 6th and shut cox down that inning, and freeman pitched the top of the 7th. because kempsville beat PA today, cox clinched 2nd in the district. They will play at cox monday for a "re-match" of todays game. Good game to observe today. G-G-G-G-Go Falcons
