FC 19, Kempsville 12, it was that bad, FC had better start catching the Ball, Cook had 7 rbi and Rienerth had 5rbi,I said this before, when teams have to go to their #2 pitcher, anything can happen, Rienerth stated for FC, they took him out in the 2nd, up 10 to 3, 1st 2 innings took and hour and 45 min, he gave up a flair and a double, but 6 errors were made in 2 innings, the next 2 FC pitchers got shelled, then they brought Rienerth back in the 5th and he closed it out, this game was as bad as the Monday nite NCAA championship game, but there is more baseball tomorrow and the weather is great.
FC vs. Kempsville was really ugly. Hopefully the Kempsville player that was hit in the face on a throw to first is OK. Had to go to the hospital in the 4th inning.
The final was 20-12 but Kempsville had tied it at 12 in the 5th after going down 10-1 after 1 1/2 innings.
All three pitchers for FC had thier struggles. So did thier fielders. FC had 7 errors, 4 past balls and 4 wild pitches. Kempsville wasn't any better with 7 errors of thier own.
On the positive side, FC won and had some solid hits finishing with 10 hits as a team.
Wouldn't say the 2nd and 3rd pitchers were "shelled".

HuH? ok, 6 straight doubles, thats not being shelled? its was an ugly game, Rienerth ended the game stronger then he started, and FC had better start catching the ball. It was a win, I thought the word shelled was being nice, also, plate ump was too tight on all pitchers, many calls were missed, I really hope the player from kemspville is OK, no one wants to see a child drilled in the face, it was a horrible accident, I wish him the best, and that's tough on the parents too. FC did hit the ball well. Pitcher Keith from FC is a great set up man, just needs to find his rhythm, hits at least 1 batter a game and walks a few, but his ball does move. Naw, 2 and 3 were shelled, thats it.
Ok...a message board is not a place to say that your son's teammates got "shelled"...The 2nd pitcher was pitching his first game of the year.
They got 4 solid hits but he came into the game in a tough situation with 2 runners on base.
The 3rd pitcher wasn't shelled at all...just a case of 2 hit batters and a walk to go with a couple of singles after getting the team out of a jamb in the 2nd and pitching a clean 3rd inning.

I didn't mention names, never do when its not a positive, my statement was based on what I said on other post, ALL BEACH TEAMS except PA do not have a strong #2 pitcher, the way to win is to get teams Ace off mound, no disrespect. Rienerth wasn't sharp, not at all, alot of balls were hit hard, it was a tough situation to come into because of the errors. I said Keith, #3 needs to find rhythm, thats a true statement, he can be really good and effective, that's not a knock, with a 10 to 1 or 3 lead we all thought it was safe but Kempsville swung the bat and came back, kudo's to them, its not a secret to anyone that FC needs to find another pitcher, Yankee 43 said that statement 3 months ago, and its true, tomorrow another day, another game, lets play ball and play hard.
Salem 9, Landstown 8

Pretty entertaining game at Salem. A combination of walks and poor Landstown defense resulted in Salem jumping out to a 6-0 lead after 3 innings.

Landstown whittled away at the lead, then tied the game at 7-7 in the top of the 6th on Sandifer's 3-run homer.

In fact, Landstown took a 8-7 lead in the top of the 7th, but Salem scored twice in the bottom of the 7th to win 9-8. Newman had a nice double down the left field line to start the inning, combined with more walks and a highly questionable force-out no-call at home plate gave Salem the win.

Staskey pitched a good ballgame for Salem as well. Noticed a few college coaches there watching him, including VT.

Umpires had an extremely bad game, strike zone was all over the place and landstown coach did little to help his case argueing balls and strikes. one of the worst officiated games I have seen in quite a while. Box score in the pilot only listed 1 error for both teams but I know Landstown had at least 3 and salem had at least 3 or 4. to say Landstown pitching was pretty bad would be an understatement, think they threw 6 different kids. the back breaker was the call at home, my wife and I as well as several other parents from both teams saw and HEARD what the umpire said, terrible call but just one of several. bottom line, Landstown pitching had better come around or they are in trouble.
At the Landstown Salem game yesterday it was the worst umpires i have seen in 10 years. The guy behind the plate totally screwed the last call of the game up that gave salem the win, also he couldn't call a curve ball for a strike. The Field umpire was just as bad he screwed up numerous calls. One call was obvious Landstown had bases loaded in the 3rd or 4th the kirby kid hits a ground ball and ran completely through the base (very fast not to mention) and the umpire with a delayed call called him out it was terrible officiating none the less

How 'bout you guys give some details about this play so we all know what you are talking about. Situation? Force or tag? If it was a judgement call on a tag then not much to complain about (just like at first).

Landstown up by one run, bases loaded, one out, infield in

Batter hits a grounder to short, shortstop throws to the plate, catcher LEANS to his left to catch the ball for the force at home, but umpire somehow rules that the catcher's foot came off the plate.

Game now tied, bases still loaded. Pitcher walks in winning run, game over.

Umpires comment to Landstown coach was "there was NO TAG!", Landstown coach said its a force play, umpire responded "he did not tag the runner!" end of story, bottom line both sides where equaly victomised by this umpire, Landstown was just the victom of the last terrible call and put themselves in that position with terrible pitching.
Frankly, the home plate ump and Landstown's coach were pushing each other's buttons all game long. The coach would purposely wait on the ump come to the mound, and then he would make a pitching change (and no, no one was warming up). Conversely, the ump was confrontational as well, pointing his finger into the coach's face and things like that.

That said, the other poster was right, this game wasn't decided by umpiring (although it didn't help). Landstown's pitching and defense did themselves in.
FC 12, Green Run 0, David Berman stepped up and pitched an outstanding 4 innings and Justin Keith pitched well in the 5th, striking out 1 of the best hitters in the Beach, Good win for FC, Charlie Ricards hit well, Cook was Cook and hit a bomb, TJ continued his walk streak and walked 3 more times, Berman hit double to extent inning and the outfield played the ball well, strong effort for a potential let down game. Chris Livers and freshman Joey Brown also had key hits. A Plus on today's effort.
Good post Pilots81...Good coaching strategy today for the Patriots. I think it shows FC can hit the ball and they do have pitching.Referring to previous posts! I recall Reinerth got the Win against Ocean Lakes and hit the walk off homer . Every team has a bad day, but having a bad day when you win and still being critized is backwards.

A great pitchers duel

Kellam and FC have always played competetive games against each other, but it was inspiring to see a high school young man pitch with all his heart and soulSmile Ryan Cook took the team on his shoulders today and came up with a win against a solid Kellam baseball team. It doesnt get any better than that!!!!!
I have to say that Troy Jones pitched a whale of a game, keeping FC hitters off balance, but Ryan Cook showed why he is one of the top 3 players at the Beach, I know that Merimondo? frpm OL is good, but I"ve seen Cook for 4 years now and he is money. I know last year FC went 14 and 2 and no one got all Beach, But Cook for 4 years has been outstanding, Im sure he won't get all beach this year cause FC faces everyone's ace and somebody will hit 500 for another school, But Cook is the Heart and Soul of what High school Baseball should be. Stirring the pot again, but Ryan Cook is just terrific, and No, he is not my son, Kellam is a class act, they play the game right, alot of baseball left, its widw open, but Cook? wow, awesome

Despite Tallwood being held to just 1 hit, the Dolphins can't put runs on the board. Take their second loss of the season and second on the road. 6-2.

Not too many details from the game, didn't have my reporter there.

Cory you are gonna have to pay them more!..

about the only thing good happened it that game was Tallwood got their 1st win of the season.

Soph, Koonce pitched an outstanding game for OL.. He didn't get much help from his defense it was just pitiful.. lots of misplays, dropped balls etc..

OL bats weren't much better just couldn't get the timely hit. They made it interesting in the 7th. However it just wasn't enough.

Hopefully this game was a wakeup call.
VAAngelsfan, I'm glad u said it, it seems no one is catching the ball, Its not a knock on anyone, lets make that clear, but everyone is worried about teaching hitting and pitching when most games are won by defense and base running. I think it goes back to when kids start playing, 7-8 years old, fundamentals, I've looked at line scores from alot of beach games, 11 runs on 3 hits, 6 errors. I thought it was just me watching bad baseball. The coaches are working their butts off, its starts earlier then when they get to High School. alot of baseball left.
