It was a really well-played baseball game with very few mistakes by either team and outstanding pitching. The calls were close but not necessarily bad....FC lost out on an interference no-call at second that cost a run (runner did not slide at second on a double-play attempt). The first call at the plate Luke Wollett appeared to avoid the tag by hopping around the catcher and slapping the plate. The final call at the plate was bang-bang with a high-shoulder tag and the FC player sneaking a hand through the legs of the catcher to tag the plate....I couldn't tell if he was safe or out.
Emotions were high but the players showed themselves well for both teams.
Looks like a race in the Beach. FC has a deep pitching staff with multiple choices to start, hold or finish a game (a sophomore started today and shut Kellam out for 4 innings). Chris Livers and Clay Frizzell are showing great leadership of the young team (Clay finished the game and got the win, and Chris had a key throw-out at second and caught a great game) that apperars to be getting more confidence with every game.
FC started a freshman, two sophomores, five juniors, and two seniors...they seem to have some of the same mojo that Kellam had last season.
The umpire is a good ump, he has umpired high-school for years including some big games. It was just a really close, hard-faught game that came down to inches.
