Kellam catcher completely missed the tag, plain and simple
A school has no say in who is or is not sent to a specific school. IF that was the case you would only see 4 or 5 umpires who the coach at one school liked and then what if two schools are playing and one team likes certain umpires and the other team hates those umpires and has "striked" them from being able to do their games. The commish has enough to worry about without having to deal with all of those headaches from the 30 or more high schools that he assigns umpires for every Tuesday and Friday if there is no make-ups scheduled.

That was back when you umped, it is a different time now. The schools do have a say. If a school chooses to request to strike you as an ump from doing their games, you will be striked from that school. The commissioner does support the umpires, but when it's requested from the school administration, I would bet you wont see that umpire for the remainder of the season.quote:Originally posted by miss_the_757:
Mr. Buckstone,
I have a few counter arguments. Granted, it has been a long time since I umpired down there, but if an experienced umpire had a problem with a team, i.e. bumping, etc., the commissioner would usually send us right back out to that school if we were so inclined. He also, for the most part, didn't take into account who a school did or didn't want umpiring their games. That's a slippery slope. But, like I said, it has been a while.
I have met coach Stubbe, umpired a few of FC's games when he first took over. Very classy, and all I really needed to know was that coach what's his name who was at FC said he was the right guy. I also know coach Jones, and his crew. He is a class act.
Long winded first post, ain't it?
Blue is right about this one. Contrary to popular belief there are not hundreds of guys lined up to get paid $70 to drive all over Hampton Roads for a 4+ hour gig that invloves taking a raft of crud from parents, coaches and players.
So "striking" guys from the list really isn't an option. More realistic is that the commish is rotating umpires around to be sure there is not an inappropriate amount of familiarity. In the end though the more experianced and higher rated guys are generally assigned the bigger games including the regionals.
