Haha... never seen it played that way for a double.
"But you're taking the possibility of a HR out of his hands"
It's about time somebody did this. People will call this a selfless play but it would be selfish not to put one down here. I think the guys that are currently getting drafted are going to wind up being more well rounded hitters to all fields. I see baseball moving away from pull hitters in the near future
Love it. That's been my thought too -- at some point the pendulum will start going in the other direction and players will be rewarded for the ability to use all fields and defeat the shift. I'm sure it will take a while but there's always change and adjustments. We shall see.
It was almost a triple as the SS was watching it roll and roll and roll and he finally woke up and ran to cover third.
If my team is behind late in a game, I love seeing this!
Thanks for Sharing! Not often you see a pitcher field a ball in grass past infield.
I hate to play the role of Eeyore, and I thought that was a really fun AB, but this one play won't be the death knell for the shift.
His previous AB was a home run.
This was his next AB. Same shift. He hit a slow grounder between the SS and 2B (players) and beat out the throw. Just one of those nights for Carpenter.

Every time I see a player come up to bat with the over shift it drives me crazy. Im always shaking my head wondering why they don't bunt. Yes one at bat won't cure the shift, but do it two or three times in a row and teams will start rethinking the shift against that batter.
