Long before HaverSon was even in H.S., in a time when I was a bit more agile, I had the good fortune of hanging out and working out with the Rimini Pirates of the top Italian league.

Coached by a couple of Cubans (one was a player-coach), the Pirates were athletically skilled, if not fundamentally perfect. The team featured a pair of Dominicans, one very old (by baseball standards) and one barely old enough to shave. The rest of the team were indiginous Italians.

They played on nice field, a couple of clicks from the Adriatic coast, that featured three GIANT terraced patio-bars. (It seemed like there were several hundred Cinzano umbrellas.) The "stadium" was "approved" for about 2,500.

When I ran across this "news" story today, I thought about them.
