These perspectives are exactly what I was seeking. I was looking for family stories because I was initially concerned about understanding the potential for future regret. If he moved to pitcher because of a higher ceiling and more prestigious college opportunity would he eventually regret not playing both sides of the ball? Conversely if he could find a place to play catcher, would he someday regret not pursuing what might have been a "better" opportunity for his future?
And the common thread seems to be that in many ways it's not really a decision, because the coaches make the determination about positions. In the end it's about fit of the school, which requires time to understand.
Through this thread and some PMs the real questions he has to work through have become clearer. And at this stage in the game the plan should really be to shut down the arm for a while, study and just be a HS kid for a while.
On a final note - all of the posts over the years that talk about the rapid maturation of kids as they move through this process and the amazement of parents as they watch it happen are also taking on new meaning.
Thanks to all
