Some of you may have read my post a couple weeks ago about my son's high school teammate who more than paid his dues to play baseball in college, and he hit a triple in his lone at bat in the late innings of the OSU/UC Irvine regional for his last college at bat

A similar story from last night's Vandy/Texas game. Another of my son's former HS teammates, a kid who has had about 20 at bats all year long for Vandy, found himself in a starting role when the starting third baseman was suddenly declared ineligible for post season.

Tyler's walkoff infield single sent Vandy to the CWS finals last night.

So for two years, Tyler prepared himself, kept his focus, worked hard. He had no idea that he would play a role in his team's CWS run. But he then finds himself at the center of it, and hits the game winner to send his team to the finals.

I think you will all see Tyler's abilities on display this week, since it looks like he will now be the starting 3rd baseman.

Just another example of a kid paying the price to be prepared to step up when the moment calls.

Rob,

Thanks for posting this, I was thinking about the same thing when I was watching the game. Until you experience college baseball up close most don't realize there are a lot of kids who are not in the lineup, who put so much time and effort without seeing the field day in and day out, without these kids there is no "team".  It is always exciting to see them get an opportunity, and even better if they have a big impact on a game or series.
