As admissions decisions and financial aid information have become available, the list has been whittled down. I would appreciate any information that can be given regarding these programs from a baseball point of view (specifically if you have first hand experience). I have done a substantial amount of research on each, both academically and athletically, however, having more knowledge on each program would allow my decision to be all the more informed.

I played for Coach DeFelice at Bentley back in 1970-73. I not only learned a ton about baseball but he made me grow up as a person. I owe him a lifetime of thank yous.

He still coaches (as well as AD)and I see him often. He has been a mentor to my son. In fact, I am going there tomorrow.

The field/stadium (as well as other facitiites) has to among the best in the east for a D-II school. Their educational reputation is top notch (so is Babson).

Send me a PM and I will give you my cell and home numbers if you want more information.

Marshall:

4thGen is a freshman at Babson. From a baseball point of view they are currently ranked #1 in New England DIII and 30th nationally. They are a very close team that has some great arms at the top of the roster and kids up and down the line up that can mash. Yesterday they broke the program's record for home runs in a game with 7.

The upperclass men treat the new players well and 5 or 6 are starters or getting a significant amount of playing time. From an academic as well as a baseball perspective Babson has been objectively getting better and better.

Please send me a PM and I'll set you up with 4thGen's phone number as well as mine and we can answer any questions you have about the program.

TRhit:

Brian hit two out yesterday and threw out a couple of runners. Both of the catchers at Babson are real take charge leaders. 4thGen is the freshman SS. He loves it at Babson, he's doing well in school and the coaches have been straight up with him. The team is so tight that the day he set foot on campus he had 34 friends.

I don't know much about Rochester but Babson and Bently are wonderful campuses with great academic reputations and strong baseball. They are also big rivals.
3rdgen

"Boomer" who posts once in awhile now has a son at Rochester and the boy loves it there--great school great campus and great baseball

We have been fortunate to have a number of our kids, including Boomers son, attend Rochester

Like I said earlier , of the three schools mentioned in the OP, you can throw a blanket over them they are that close in excellence
I appreciate everyone's responses. I recently visited the Bentley campus and came away with very excited about what the school offers.

3rd gen. I will send you a pm. Babson is a very impressive school, and I think it would be interesting to hear opinions on why students from each particular school chose one over the other since they are both relatively small business schools in the Boston area.

Again, thank you to all who have shared thoughts and comments.
Son finished four years at UR, and played all four years from day one. He was their leadoff hitter and broke the schools career hits and runs scored records. He was a "Player To Watch" by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. He was All Conference last year. He was named to the ESPN The Magazine All-District second time twice and this year first team. This his senior year, was awarded the Male Scholar-Athlete of The Year Award. This is encompasses all sports. Not a big kid, 5'7" 165#.

Academically, B.S degree in Cellular and Developmental Biology + minor in Biomedical Engineering. Awarded the TAKE 5 Scholarship for a fifth year of studies, tuition free!!

O.K., enough bragging. Seriously, I mention all of this because he chose Rochester over the University of Chicago, Tufts, Tulane, and Missouri.

When "TRhit" was doing showcases, our son attended the event in Binghamton, NY. My son and me did the East coast tour of the Ivies. We stopped at Tufts as well. However, at the showcase he was seen by Coach Reina of Rochester. Our son didn't have any contact or knowledge of Rochester until about a week after the event when he received information from Coach Reina. We investigated all of the schools and the curiculum our son was interested in initially, Biomedical Engineering. Now we had to look into UR.

Our son wanted to play baseball, right away, as a freshman. Pretty sure of himself, I thought. But he was given that opportunity, and at a program that was rising into the national limelight. Coach Reina was broadening his efforts to bringing in players from all across the country. Our son visted campus, and Coach Reina picked him up at the airport. Continued contact, on a weekly basis, really impressed our son, but not from the other schools. He felt "wanted" and knew he would get his degree from a fantastic research university and medical center, Strong Memorial Hospital. Lookup on Rochester's web site under research and under the medical center, and you'll find some amazing research accomplishments. Pandemic Bird Flu and Papiloma Vacine (sp).

O.K., so I've given a parents response to your inquiry. However, if you are interested in UR, and even visiting, e-mail Coach Reina. I'm sure you will get an invitation to visit campus. Who knows you may run into my son. He's working on a research project with one of his professors again this summer, and maybe I'll be around to give you a parents tour of all the fine eating establishments. Have you ever had a "garbage plate?" Fantastic!!

Good luck.
