Agoura is pretty good! 9-0 over the #3 team in the nation... um i think they should be considered number 1.
They won't get a shot at Chatsworth in the finals. Chatsworth was beaten 4-0 by Valencia in the semis.
One of these days I have to make a trip to watch Agoura play!
Stock hit two homers in the ECR win and stoffel pitched a gem. Agoura is definitely living up to its hype! No doubt about it.

Bellarmine is 10-0 and ranked #1 in California, end of story.
Bellermine is supposed to be fantastic. They certainly has some very fine players and coaches. Not end of story, though. More like the 3rd or 4th chapter, still a way to go......
Back to the subject at hand. Definetely the best ball in cali is in the Marmonte League. Most of the better teams in the league just finished the Easton Southern California Invitational, which featured 3 pre-season Nationally Ranked teams. Most of the Marmonte league teams fared well, with Agoura winning the tournament and blowing out El Camino 9-0. Simi Valley went 4-1 with it's only loss a 1-0 pitcher's dual against Chatsworth. Look to see all 4 Marmonte qualifiers going far in the playoffs with Agoura taking the Championship!
Good to see those teams are all doing so well and hope the right people coming around will present enough opportunities to make everybody happy. peace

Tim,
Hard to figure out how the teams stack up after the first couple league games. Agoura is tough but certainly beatable when Stoffel isn't pitching. Westlake seems to be better than their record in league would indicate. Simi seems to be fairly strong this year and so do TO and NP. I actually think this is a down year for the league overall despite the strength of the Agoura program.

quote:Agoura probably would end up highly ranked with two 90+ pitchers but they play in such a tough league that no one ends up undefeated.
I posted that on Feb. 13th. Yesterday Agoura lost a league game with Stoffel on the mound. The Marmonte league is just too tough for anyone to go undefeated.
Coolbuddy,
From what I've heard, I totally agree. That league is stacked with Stocks and Stoffels
Almost sounds like a company and IPO for Marmonte League should be formed-Just Kidding

PioneerDad, Congrats to your team on the win over Agoura. I am glad to see that your team brought their A-Game. On any given day, any given team is beatable, I keep trying to instill that into my son's mind, especially when we play our division powerhouse, Oaks Christian! The race to the end should prove interesting in the Marmonte League.
I'd thought I'd chime in with an update from the Easter Classic in Fresno.
Agoura Hills goes 1-3 Loosing to Buchanan, San Joaquin Memorial and Clovis.
Jesuit 2-2 Loosing to Agoura and Yosemite.
Central Valley Baseball looked real good throughout. I'd rate Buchanan, Bullard and perhaps Clovis with Agoura any day.
Tournament format exposes a lack of depth in pitching but position players on Buchanan's team were as good as anybody.
Many teams looked rusty defensively due to the persistant rain but all in all a good HS baseball experience

Like I said, The Central Valley is the Toughest.

Rollerman, to piggyback on your comments, in one of Jesuit's losses, Thain Simon threw a 3-hitter against Agoura. Problem was, Jason Stoffel threw a 2-hitter at Jesuit for a 1-0 Agoura win. Jake Morton also threw a 3-hit shutout vs. Clovis West in their first win and Trevor Paine, Jesuit's starting catcher, pitched 6 shutout innings in their win over McLane.
I was just going to bring that up rollerman, I wanted to go out and see them play (Jesiuit's and Agoura), but with the rain it was a weird sechdule.
Stoffel must be a real stud to hold Jesuit to just two hits. They have a great hitting team, led by Anderson.
It would be fun to see more of these matchups on a regular basis.
When we get to divisional playoffs there will be some more of that around here. Buchanan, Clovis, and Clovis West will have to battle it out in their league. Bullard should coast in their's with the possibility of Edison sneaking a bite out of them.
If the fire of intense league play brings out the best in a team then the winner of the Tri-River Conference should be well tempered for playoff competetion.
Some division 2 and 3 schools faired well against the blue chippers too. There are some pretty decent baseball programs hereabouts.
