I just ordered the new Omaha (blue one) from Kelly Ultimate Sports in SoCAL for $177 with free shipping. It's for my 15-years-old-in-two-weeks-from-now son. It was recommended to me by a young HS coach that played SEC ball until a couple of years ago.
He said that other good ones were the Nike bats (MX5 is the new one, but the Hawk was on eastbay.com for $99 and I considered it because of the price).
Also said the new Rawlings Liquid Metal was a good bat. He didn't care for the Gen1X (too many breaks), ZCore, or a couple of others like Worth bats. He also was not a fan of the Connection bats. My son had one last year and claimed it was "Dead" (3 homers, 5 shots off the wall with it during 20 games of summer play-not bad for "dead").
That's all I can remember.

By the way, my son is a HS Freshman, 5'11" - 155 lbs.
And the coach also said it really comes down to what you feel comfortable with. This was not his coach, but the guy was an assistant at one of the Top 20 HS teams in the nation last year.
Hope that helps.

Nike makes an outstanding bat, just make sure its certified. A kid on my freshman team last year had a 34/31 that felt like a 34/28, it was so non-top-heavy. Problem was it wasn't certified, it wasn't stamped with the thing that the umpires check for before each game. I actually like Worth bats, and i too hate connection bats. I have heard the rawlings liquid metal has a cheap handle though.
MY favorite bat though, when it comes down to it, is made by Akadema. GREAT company. I will forever use their batting gloves and bats.
i'd buy a connection because last year i had a air gen1x and the top cap fell off the scond week. the connection however you can feel the ping when you hit it which really gives me an idea of how im htting
Just like golf clubs are to us, baseball bats are to players. It is a matter of feel because they all have something to offer. My son uses the Connexion but just obtained a new DeMarini. He likes the feel of the Connexion and thus has more confidence in it. Watched him use the DeMarini once, hit a rocket to center and back to the Connexion next at bat. Different feel. He said the DeMarini has a composite handle and you actually get a bend in the bat during the swing. As a result there is a whipping action and the compression when contact is made. But again it will be what feels best for your son.
My son just bought a new Demarini Vexxum after going through a Triple 8 that, he said, felt a little dead and not as much pop as his old Triple 7. Said he likes the balance of the Demarini as it feels lighter with the center of gravity appearing to be more toward the center of the bat and lower in the handle than the Easton, kind of like backweighting golf clubs. Also he likes the slight flex, says it feels a little like a wood bat bending and feels it has good pop.
I wish your choices were only Ash, Hickory or Maple and whether or not you wanted a natural or painted finish, a cup or not at the end of the 2 1/2 or 2 5/8 barrel and 15/16 or 7/8 handle.

So far, my son has borrowed a few different bats from his teammates and seems to like the Easton Triple 8 or the Easton Triple 7 best about equally. He also has tried Louisville Omaha and the Rawlings LiquidMetal, but said that "they didn't feel right".
As a freshman on his HS JV team, after three preseason games, he is batting fourth and batting over 500.
