indianaman- i think the profesonals pick songs that represent them and that pump them up and help them put there game faces on. whats the reason u would wanna step up 2 the plate with bob blasting in the back ground? probably the same reason everyone else picks there..i would wanna step up 2 the plate with some rap song goin just bc the loud bass being able 2 get me ready for what lies ahead. so i think it all depends on ur personality and what puts u in that state of mind.
I worked in the bullpen for a Northern League team last summer. They had some interesting songs. An older white veteran had the rap song "lean back" as his song. A little different for a larger white guy in his mid 30s that didn't seem like the rap listening type. We also had a few country songs, ie:The Duke's of Hazard Theme song, and a Chris Ledoux song as well. There were also some of the regular hard rock songs as well.

Personally, my song for the last 2 years has been Kenny Chesney's "She Thinks My Tractor's ****." The rest of the guys hate it, but it's a fan favorite. I like the fiddle at the beginning, it gets me pumped. Don't ask me how a kid from the south side of Chicago gets pumped by fiddles, but I do.

I say don't worry too much about a song though. I've discussed having music on during bp and before at bats with a few people that think it's too much of a distraction to the player. They say it makes the player worry more about what song is playing than actually playing. I can see that argument, but I like having something on during bp that gets me going. Believe it or not, I don't really hear the music being played before I hit. It's already the background track in my head as I'm on deck checking everything out before my at bat.

We have a microphone and it's connected to a tape player that we can play the national anthem on, and we can turn up the radio in between innings, but that's about it.

For $50 bucks, you add CD player, burn a few CD's and you're there!

I never did this...but we had a 250lb lefty senior pitcher (who was very good) who was the guy who kept everyone loose. Funny, funny kid. Anyway...I was listening to stuff on the computer and I saw on one of our lists, "Big Papa" by Biggie Smalls...I cranked it up and it was perfect. I wanted to play that everytime the kid waddled to the mound....no guts though, no glory! Kid went 7-1 and took us to state! Now I can't get the dang song out of my head.

Unfortunately you can't play the entire song...bad language...

These songs are picked by the players: Auburn's team song, the song played as they take the field, is AC/DC's "Hell's Bells". My son's coming out song, since his last name is Bell, is "For Whom the Bell Tolls" by Metalica. We also have a reliever on the team by the name of John Madden... John's song, as he takes the mound, is the theme from "ESPN Sportcenter".

If you know someone with a laptop you can hook it up to your PA. We use a program developed by the Portland Trailblazers called "Game Ops Commander" It is really great and you can do a lot of cool things.
Be sure and check lyrics it can be very embarrassing to hear #*%@ over the PA. You need to make your clips no shorter than 45 seconds. That way if there is a timeout you can let it play...
Some songs to consider -
Walkout Songs-
Cha-Cha, Pour Some Sugar on Me, Song of the South, Good Old Boys,Man in the Box, Jump around, AC/DC and Metallica have a lot of good songs.
Other Songs-
You dropped the Bomb on Me (for Homeruns)

We also do sound effects which are quite fun, but need to be in good taste.
Music is fine as long as it is kept in proper perspective......

Do what you want before the game and in between innings, but:

A. Stop the music when the game resumes. Do not make the Umpire signal to cut the music.

B. As a player do not delay the game while waiting for "your music" to be played. Get out there and be ready to play.

C. Do not use music to embarrass your opposition. NFHS rules forbid it....... remember all it takes to have it stopped is one complaint from the visiting coach.

and finally be aware of irony............Nothing sillier than a pitcher coming in to "wild thing" and promptly walking in the winning run.... or a #9 hitter coming out to "Bad to the bone".....and getting k'd in 3 pitches.............
At the Cal/Stanford series this past weeekend, when the first baseman for Stanford came up to bat, they played the theme from Mayberry R.F.D. (yes, his name is John Mayberry JR).

A bit off topic, but years ago at a Brewers game (I think), there was a streaker on the field - without missing a beat, the organist started playing 'Is That All There Is'. I always thought that was pretty funny.
After this weekend (we went to Kansas), I'm having serious doubts about the music thing. I've never heard so much LOUD, obnoxious music in my life. My head hurt, couldn't hear any dialogue on the field, and quite frankly didn't approve of some of the music selections. Example: lyrics like: "I'm a loser, why don't you just kill me"

I like the natural sounds of a baseball game, the players voices, the "ping" of the bat, the encouraging words, the sound of digging in at the plate, and of course you can't hear the umpire/coach "discussions" when the music is blasting!

If I want loud music, I'll go to a club after the game.

Okay, you can blast me now Smile
