I think it is way too early for a Top 10 list.

He are the players I think are the best in their classes as of now.

Senior - Michael Taylor (Apopka) - Team One's No. 1 ranked high school player. My guess is he could go as high as the No. 3 pick of the Mets. He is clearly way abovge anyone else in Central Florida, as this is a weak senior class.

Junior - John Matulia (Eustis) - This young man is clearly a five tool player. he runs well, hit for average and power, had a plus arm and is an outstandign defensive centerfielder. He is also a pitcher, but will probably get drafted as a position player. (I say this having not yet seen him pitch). This junior class is also on the weak side, but Matulia will be one of the best in the state - not just Central Florida.

Sophomore - TIE
Marcus Lemon (Eustis) - This young man has the talent to be a great player. He is former Tiger Chet Lemon's son.
Stephen King (Winter Park) - Like lemon, I believe the sky is the limit for King. Also like Lemon, his dad is the high school coach at Winter Park.
Both of these players have a solid shot to get drafted early in 2006 if they keep performing.

"He is clearly abovge anyone else in Central Florida, as this is a weak senior class".

Obviously, this is your opinion and not that of some of the scouts I have talked to. To make a statement like that obviously doesn't show a whole lot of common sense on your part.

If it's "way to early for a top 10 list" for Central Florida, then Perfect Game, Baseball America, Street and Smith, Team One and all the rest with Pre-Season All-American teams certainly jumped the gun.

Seymore, pretty good list. I would add Gower, Glass, Richardson,
Harmon, Kelley, Lucroy, Helms. There will be a few more that come out during the season as well.

Florida Baseball Guy said it was his guess that Taylor might be picked as high as #3, not an opinion presented to him by any other source.

It is interesting that the publications you have listed also have Taylor prominently positioned. The fact that they have not acknowldged other central Florida players probably lends some credibility to the opinion of Florida Baseball Guy. There are an estimated 150,000 high school seniors this year so to say that someone is in the top 100 nationally seperates him from a large number but does not mean that there are not any number(in the thousands) of other fantastic players playing around this country.

PCX...Not questioning his statement about Taylor. But for a coach who recruits out of Central Florida to make the statement that it's a "weak senior class" is in my opinion
irresponsible.

My remarks about the pre-season ALL-American teams was in response to his statement about being too "early" to pick a top ten list in Central Florida. And then he picks the "best"
in each class. ??????

I don't want to start any controversy.

Other than Michael Taylor there is not a senior player that will be drafted in the first 35 rounds of the draft. To me that makes this a weak class.

As the coach of the Central Florida Renegades that certainly puts us in the position to have to recruit outside Central Florida and more into the talent-rich Tampa area. We like to recruit Central Florida first, but if the overall talent is not there then we look elsewhere.

Having said that almost all the players Seymore mentioned are good players. A couple have not proven themselves and should not be on a top 10 list - particularly the juniors.

As for Moc's list: They are all good player's but not players that will be drafted high in June. That does not make them bad player's, but it does make it a bad draft year for seniors in Central Florida. Lake Mary's Ryan Richardson is the only one on your list that has a chance to break into the top 35 rounds of the draft.

The player who might have the best overall future on your list is Umatilla's Jonathan Lucroy - who is easily the best catcher in Central Florida this year. What makes him special is he can hit for power, runs well and has a great arm and defensive instincts. I do know Jonathan fairly well and believe he is one of the hardest working players in the area - that is why he is so good. Look for him to have a chance to be a top pick out of college.

Some of the others on your list are good player who have just have not proven themselves against top competition. Many scouts have told me that other than seeing Taylor they will not be in Central Florida much at all this year. But trust me they will come to see Taylor.

Speaking as a Team One scout I do not think his diabetes condition will affect his draft. First, he has been honest and upfront about the situation. It is easily controled. I think the bigger obsticle will be his signing with Stanford. In a Team One article he told me that his signing with a great school should not be held against him and I agree with that. However, it will cost someone big money to sign him so he needs to be drafted early in the first round. The Mets like high school players and will invest the money - that is why I like him at the No. 3 pick.

Sorry for this being too long. If people do not want me to voice my opinion I won't. But if you notice I will only be positive when I name a player - I hope all continue to follow that rule.

PCX and Dad04 Thanks for the kind words. My reason for posting was not to brag about my son but to dispell the myth about Central Florida not having any top rate seniors. There are many players here that may not be top ten round picks but ARE being actively scouted. One scout asked directions to Seminole HS and another to Lake Mary. Had another ask about a pitcher for Winter Park. I think it does a disservice to all the young men who may frequent this site and see remarks being made that essentially there is little or no talent in Central Florida. I can personally name 10 that have signed to play D1.

Remember, the original question was about the top ten players in Central Florida, not who was going to be a first round pick or the top player in each class.

Blanket statements do no one any good.

Florida Baseball Guy,

A friend of mine said that while on business in your state he saw a kid by the name of Wilfredo Munoz (junior @ Pine Ridge HS) that was a true player. Word on the street was that all of the top D1 schools in Florida have him on their list and have been sending info. Have you seen this kid play?
(Moc1) Mr. Pryor,

For some reason you have taken my remarks about Central Florida players personally. It was not a knock on Ty or his abilities. If you feel that you need to continue to promote Ty through this site to the pros then please do so.

What I said was the talent in Central Florida is down in this year's senior class. Call up Sal Lombardo of the Scorpions and he will tell you the same.

Of course Central Florida has some serious Division I talent. But as far as nationally ranked players this is a down year. That's all I said.

Since BigHit's son was mentioned in the conversation I'll add this point. If Eric Ridener was throwing here in Orlando he would clearly be the best pitcher - there wouldn't be anyone close to him, but he is playing at Taravella when I last looked - not in Central Florida.

The one player that might have a chance to get picked on the first day might be Lake Mary's Paul Cinder. He is a 6-foot-8 right-handed pitcher.

To close, I hope you do not take my comments personally. I believe the junior, sophomore and freshman classes in Central Florida are loaded with talent.

I will pray for you that Ty does get drafted on the first day if that is your point. But if he does not get drafted he is heading to a great school (USF) and will have a fine career there. I also project him to get drafted after his sophomore year (he is an older high school senior and will be draft eligible after two years) if he continues to progress the way the USF coaches expect him to at their school. I believe the future is unlimited for your son.

Good Luck.

I am going to be fair here. Hard for me. I never knew that that Ty was Moc1's son until today. It was not Moc1 who let me know that, it was someone else. I do not believe that he promotes his son on these boards. I think that is a fair statement and is not intended to take sides on this issue.

I appreciate you saying nice things about my son, but every time someone does I get accused of having a mediocore and over rated son, tooting his horn, etc. I would appreciate his name being left out. Nothing personal and the nice comments were appreciated. I am a dad after all.

Let us just be nice here and go back to wishing the kids the best. JMO

Let us stay civil.

Sorry Big, I appreciate your wanting to keep this civil, and I will, but I will not allow misstatements by Mr. Pincus to go unchallenged.
It is happening too often and it needs to stop.

"If you feel that you need to continue to promote Ty through this site
to the pros then please do so."

Where did that statement come from? First, I never mentioned his name.
Second, he doesn't need promotion. Third, I don't know any scouts from this area who come on this site. You are making statements up out of thin air and you need to comprehend what was written.

You start talking about top round draft picks out of the blue and how
weak the talent is in Central Florida. My comments were in response to
your irresponsible and needless statements. Please read the first post
on this thread and then tell us how you go from "Top 10 players in Central Florida" to "best player in each class" and "weak senior class". You did NOT say the talent is "Down" as you stated in your last post-you said WEAK-big difference. You belittled every senior in
Central Florida and didn't have to.

Your opinions are just that-YOUR OPINIONS-please do not try to make them
any more than that. And at least try to respond to what is being discussed, I'm sure you know how to start a thread if you want to talk
about top players and the draft.

Again, this is not about me and my son it's about making irresponsible
statements for no reason.

Moc1
Mr. Pryor,

It seems you are taking this as a knock against Ty. It's not.

I like Ty. If you remember we recruited him, but would not catch him and you chose to play for another team. You played for the Orlando Scorpions - an outstanding ballclub. I'm thriled you signed with USF. In fact, I'm writing this from the USF press box.

I don't want to make this personal. In the future, I will not post anything at all. If you don't want my opinion then I won't give it. But please note my opinion was not directed at you or your son.

Congratulations to all the Central Florida High Schoolers that were drafted this year. A special congrats to those that were drafted before
the 35th round in spite of a statement made previously:

"Other than Michael Taylor there is not a senior player that will be
drafted in the first 35 rounds of the draft. To me that makes this a weak draft."

These were all picked before the 35th round; Paul Cinder, Ty Pryor,
Andrew Koubek, Oliver Marmol, and John Wells.

Good Luck to all the draftees!
