Our coach has asked me to load our team stats into a program so that he can keep them and review them, etc. Last year's person who helped him do this is no longer there. What is the best online program to download? Or buy? I know there are a few under shareware but I would like your opinions as to what is the easiest, most thorough, etc. Thanks!!

Before you overpay, consider that all of these programs work on a spreadsheet platform, and you can pretty much set it up yourself in Excel, for example. Set up a form worksheet, copy it to have one for each game, use the sheet to enter stats for each game, then have one last worksheet where you total the stats to.

As long as you know the formulas for ERA, avg., etc., it's really not that hard. In fact, once you've done it once, setting up a new season is just a matter of opening the workbook, deleting the old data, inserting new roster names, and resaving with a new file name.

The other programs work fine, but it just isn't that hard to do with software that's probably already on your computer, IMHO.
I tend to agree with Midlo dad, this isn't rocket science and many can do this on their own with something like excel. When I was actively keeping stats I did buy and use a program (Turbo Stats) which also had a PDA version that I could keep the game book on my Palm and download later to my computer. While I did use buy the PDA version of Turbo Stats, I only used it a few times and went back to the manual book at the games and keyed the game into Turbo Stats at home later. I personally would not use an online program simply because you are dependent on their ability (or willingness) to maintain their website. They could be slick today and gone tomorrow. Besides this is YOUR project right? The main problem faced with stat keeping and the generation of statistical data is not the actual processing of the electronic information by a computer program, but the inherent inaccuracy of the data being collected. We all know that GIGO rules in high school stats! Wink GIGO
