I really like some of the Midwest D-III's, but better than the Big 10? Inane!

LT52, if the subject bores you, go somewhere else. Obviously, Corky9999, itsrosy, Rebel222, & Grandslam1 want to discuss it. There may be players, or parents of players, on this board from Big 10 schools as well.

But thanks for the outrageous statement.

Just some info -

Michigan will be improving their stadium after the 2006 season. Coach Maloney's first recruiting class is now entering their sophomore season. The program is gaining momentum as well as the entire conference. Penn State, Illinois, Indiana and Michigan State all new coaches.
You cannot compare softball to baseball, as women chose Michigan because of the school and getting in is the end all since there are no professional options for women. Michigan is a lot more attractive for softball players than baseball players.
The coaches at Michigan are some of the more honest and hard-working coaches in the country. And trust me I have had the opportunity to chat with many this past year.
Big Ten teams are also playing tougher non-conference schedules to improve their RPI. Michigan also just opened a brand new academic center for athletes. Michigan State also has a great facility for academics. They rival what any other school in the country has to offer to support their student athletes.

Michigan lost 6 starters from last year so that is why they are rated lower. They have a very good freshmen class but they will take some time to come into their own.

Northwestern could be extremely good depending on how healthy Brauer is. Kontos as the number one starter is the real deal. They have an experienced team. The biggest knock on them is that the school restricts their roster size and tells them that they must carry less than 30 players. This puts them at a distinct disadvantage if there are injuries.

I like Minnesota as well. They are always tough. They seem to do a great job of keeping the local talent from straying. There is some good ball up there.
I still say the Big 10 for baseball is like what am I thinking but if you are looking for a great education and you want to play baseball...well then, you must look at them. But,if you are looking to play baseball and get an education along with it...well then there are some great baseball schools not to far from here. But, back to my original comments on Big 10 baseball, when was the last time they were in the finals or semis in the CWS????? Plus it's cold here and at most Big 10 schools. Why can't the Asu's and Miami's of the world come and look in Illinois for some brave cold weather boys who can flat out play with the best of them. I know the answer...They DON"T have to go more than 50 miles from where they are located to find great talent and can sign more kids , being in state vs out of stste money...IMO
