Interesting trivia from a major tournament. Parents & coaches were talking about how some of the "big guys" on this team could bring it.

Here is a list of the pitchers & what some of the comments regarding them were:
A - 6'3", 175. Widely regarded to be the real flamethrower
B - 6'1", 165.
C - 6', 180. Also thought to be a hard thrower
D - 6'3", 220. "Big strong kid. Can really smoke it in there."
E - 5'11", 165. A real HS stud
F - 6'1", 190. Throws really hard
G - 5'10", 155.

Care to match up the velocities (Stalker) with the pitcher? Wink
1. 77-79
2. 82, 85 peak with some control
3. 79 cruise, 83 on two pitches where he heaved wild
4. 76-77
5. 79-81
6. 77-79
7. 81-83

A - 6'3", 175 the real flamethrower -- 79 cruise, 83 on two pitches where he heaved wild (e.g., over the backstop)
B - 6'1", 165 -- 76-77
C - 6', 180 -- 79-81
D - 6'3", 220 -- 77-79
E - 5'11", 165 -- 77-79
F - 6'1", 190 -- cruise 82, 85 peak with some control
G - 5'10", 155 -- 81-83

The results surprised those who were willing to believe the Stalker. Some stayed in denial.

The Kiddy shut-up gun too. HA HA HA ...IMO there is way to much focus on size and velocity versus learning how to pitch, Changing speeds, hitting your spots, and being efficiant, I feel are much more important to pitching successfully at any level...
I'll agree John but its the ones who throw HARD and also can pitch that end up in the big leagues. 99% of all the guys in the big leagues did at one time or another throw above 90 MPH.

See the avg HS fastball is 75-77 and the avg. big league fastball is 90-93. SO I can see why those parents feel that way. Its harder than what the avg is as a HS pitcher.
I agree with you too...but 99% of these kids will never play in the MLB, and about 95% won't see D1. Most of these kids are focussed on throwing hard, which lends to overthrowing, bad mechanics, and injuries ect...give me 5-10 160 lbs throws 80 and has three pitches in the strike zone and i will show you an extremely effective pitcher who will pitch to the 7th inning 80-90% of the time, and will most likely beat a flame thrower because he has flamed out in the 4th inning...
Texan, I have a classic storie for you "true" Our team played and beat a prominent Houston club team in Houston earlier this year. thier coach told me that they would have thier "Beast" tommorow during the playoff bracket games...We met thier "Beast" in the semi-finals, kid was 6' 2" about 200-210 lbs huge leg kick, he lasted 1/3rd of an inning giving up 2 hr's and seven runs in rout to a 10-0 run rule. (Absolutely a true story) He threw hard but everything was flat and the same speed...BP...BP...BP
