I can tell you about the head coach..Coach Weisberg is top notch and would be a joy to play for. He's a former assistant at the University of Kentucky and was also a head coach at Transylvania University (a DIII). He recruited my son a little bit while he was at Kentucky and we also talked after he went to B-S. If you get a chance to talk to him, I am sure you will walk away impressed.
Thanks for your quick and helpful replies. The coaching staff surely sounds top notch.

However, since 2008 will be their first season as D3, I'm concerned with the state of the program. After all, it is basically starting from ground zero. I understand the number of commits is a little low at this time. Sounds like a great playing opportunity, but have to wonder how competitive they'll be right off the bat.

Anybody been through something like this?
My son and I had the pleasure of meeting Coach Weisberg in person on campus. We were both quite favorably impressed with him individually as well as his focus on the program. My son is quite excited about starting @ BSC this fall. The facilities are first rate and the campus is small but gorgeous. D3 is different from D1 and it is NOT a given that a program has to 'take it's lumps' for a few years. Coach W made it clear to us that he is taking every measure to build a winning program quickly and not just roll out a 'play for fun' intrmural type of program. Time will tell..but we are enthused.
Chris,
Having talked to Coach Weisberg several times I can tell you he is intent on building a program with "players". He don't care if there are a few 'yanks.. Wink

BSC is a highly regarded academic school, nice campus, very good baseball facilities and the coaching staff is dedicated. It would be a good choice for any D3 player.

We got the same impression. Thanks for your input.
Just to update, fall practice is well underway. Practices are high energy and very competitive. As mentioned before, the facilities are top notch. Coach Weisberg and his staff have high expectations and are preparing to win right away.

The school itself is wonderful and very challenging. See why Birmingham-Southern College is called a "college that changes lives" - www.ctcl.com/colleges/birmingham-southern/Default.htm.
