Does anyone have any information on the Blue-Grey – Virginia Classic Underclassmen? My son received an invite in the mail and I have never heard of it. Was not planning to attend but wanted to check. I think the invite may have come through a showcase event. Any information would be appreciated.

playball21 -- I have heard of the Blue-Grey, but don't know anything about it. My son received an invite in the mail today as well. I was logging on to see if anybody knew anything, and I saw your post. Maybe MidloDad, Coach May, or some of the other regional experts can tell us something about this event. Guys ... can you give us any insights?
If you guys are talking about the one in Lynchburg,VA at Liberty University, I am attending myself. I got the invite in the mail from my High School on Wednesday. My parents have heard many good reviews about the Blue-Grey classic and I was also the only one from my school to receive an invite, possibly one of the few in my area. I have heard mixed reviews on the website, but all and all I have heard its an honor to be nominated and scouted by the Blue-Grey Staff and be considered one of the top 100 prospects in VA. I have talked to a few coaches and they said they would attend, but you never know. It said in the invite that over 40+ Scouts/coaches were there last year and that was a real plus for me.

It is going to be my first showcase so I am trying to get a feel for everything. I hope everything goes well, I have been conditioning for it lately more than ever.

lebanonbb -- Congratulations on the nomination and invite. I wish you the best of success at the showcase ... and in your baseball career.

I too have heard good things about the Blue-Grey in general, and am trying to get a grip on what my son (and others) can expect. All events have their pros and cons; good years and lean years. It would be great to hear from parents and players who have participated in recent Blue-Grey events in VA and/or the Mid-Atlantic.

A discussion thread from the Showcae forum with some less than positive feedback on other Blue-Grey events: http://hsbaseballweb.com/eve/f...86003481/m/224106222

Anybody who has some other feedback, I'm usre there are many invitees who would love to hear from you what they can really expect.

Thank you in advance for your help.

I appreciate it Sir.

Overall I have talked to a few guys around here who went to the event in the past and loved it. Possibly its a matter of the area? I'm not sure. But like i said before, there has been mixed reviews. I guess only time will tell; I would say this though I would rather go to this showcase and learn the basics of showcase events and then work from there. And being that the showcase is $245 and I have gotten good reviews about it from players and coaches, whats there to loose? That's the cost of a traveling ball tourney for a weekend.

By the way, I actually talked to the head coach at Pikeville College and he said he would try and be there since he heard its a showcase that has many talented players.
We went to the Florida underclassmen event last year. It was a good first showcase for 2B. The atmosphere was very relaxed, everyone was really nice, and we all had fun. We live in Florida, so, like lebanonbb says, it's the cost of a weekend tournament. The reason we went was for 2B to get a showcase experience under his belt before PG Underclassmen, so we didn't go with high expectations of seeing a lot of scouts or anything like that. It was what it was, and the experience was worthwhile.

Having said that, I do think BG oversells the number of scouts in attendance. I only saw a couple. Besides that, you have to call to get your evaluation. I tried calling a couple of times, and never caught the guy in his office, and so just didn't follow up.

A few weeks later, we went to PG underclassmen. Wow, what a difference! We were glad that 2B had that first showcase experience, but I can't imagine paying to go to another BG event.
