I believe they fired him after that...
He has been suspended indefinitely. As he should be.
On Saturday afternoon, the Southland Conference announced that the home plate umpire from Friday's game has been suspended indefinitely.
"After a thorough review of the New Orleans and Mississippi Valley State baseball contest on March 10, 2023, the Southland Conference confirmed the home plate umpire's conduct and actions were deemed detrimental to the Conference and in violation of Section 3 Character and Conduct of the CCA Mechanics Manual for Baseball," the conference's statement read. "As a result, the umpire has been removed from the series and has been suspended indefinitely from Southland Conference baseball games."
Glad the action was swift. No excuse for this kind of punitive, clearly personal, call he made to close out a game.
I'm curious to know how long the 'indefinite' suspension will last. Do you think the umpire could/should have ejected the batter with the batter's response after the strike two call? I'm glad he didn't eject him at that point in the game, but the bad strike three call was the wrong way to get back at the batter.
Heard from someone there that he had been bad the entire time. The last two were just real bad.
