Management has announced that Barry will not be returning next year as a Giant. He says he is not done with his career.

Let's leave out the steroids and talk about where he might fit in best, most likely only a DH? Will his name on a roster bring out more to watch him and make the team more money? Will his presence light a spark to those teams that need that fire lit? Or would his presence hurt a team.

If you were a GM would you consider him an option for your team? Should he retire? Does he still have something to prove? To us, to himself, to the game?

I know how hard it is to give up the game you love, but I am from the belief, quite while you are ahead.

I am not a Bonds fan, but find the whole scenerio interesting.

I think we'll see more clubs than you might imagine looking into having Bonds as their DH next year. Imagine for a moment, the Yankees lineup with Bonds hitting cleanup. He'd have quality hitters in front of him and behind him, and he could potentially produce a final outstanding year. Or, the Anaheim ( I won't say that current name they fancy) Angels. He lives in SoCal, and the Angels would be pretty fearsome with him in the middle. Or, Boston. Imagine what the Red Sox would do offensively with Manny, Bonds and Ortiz hitting 3,4,5. That might be the most prolific middle of a lineup ever. I have a feeling, even at his age, that Bonds could have a very productive year in either Yankee Stadium or Fenway Park.

If he were hitting in either of the Red Sox or Yankees lineups, how do you pitch around him? It would be an ultimate pitcher's nightmare. While I think that Anaheim has to be the odds-on favorite to land him, I'd rather see him playing for either the Red Sox or Yankees. That would be interesting to watch for a final season or two.

Again, I say this within the confines of TPM's guideline that we're leaving politics out of the discussion, just considering where he might end up. I think it'll be with a club favored to go to the playoffs, and for a LOT of money.
