I'm writing a book report on the book "Luckiest Man" by Johnathan Eig. Part of the book report requires me to pick people who I would cast for the main characters if my book were to be made into a movie. Anyways who would you guys pick to play Lou Gehrig. living or dead makes no difference. I think im gonna pick John Wayne, but im not sure. Also I need somebody to play Babe Ruth too. Maybe not Gary Cooper. Its kinda already been done.

Babe Ruth = John Goodman ... google a picture of him, and you'll get the idea.

You don't really want Gary Cooper because he was a righty and gehrig was a lefty. I'd make a good case for a young actor. Try someone like Jake Gylenhall or Ryan Gosling or someone.

I agree with John Goodman to portray Babe Ruth. I'd go with Dennis Quaid, who played a lefty in The Rookie, for Lou Gehrig.

Cooper wasn't bad as Gehrig, except when they asked him to swing. Apparently Cooper never actually played any baseball as a youth.

I would have loved to have seen Paul Newman in his youth to play Gehrig.

As for Ruth, the movie with John Goodman playing him was a slander. Ruth was never THAT fat, and in fact really only put on substantial weight in his 30's after his legs started going on him.
