Perhaps this years playoffs will get their ratings back up where they should on TV-- we are seeing some of the most exciting baseball we have seen in a long time

This will be a fun series. The only pitching advantage for Bosox will be in game three. The Yankees have a huge advantage in starting pitching and bullpen. Good pitching will nullify good hitting.
What did you think of the MLB
analysis of the position-by-position
advantage?
I disagreed with a few of them.

This is my sons away message today -
"Four baseball fans, each from a major league city, are climbing a mountain. On the way to the top, each is arguing about how loyal they are to their team and what they would do for their team. As the climb progresses, the odds increase. Upon reaching the top, the Mets fan shouts, "This is for the Mets," and hurls himself off the top. Next the Brave fan yells, "I love Atlanta, this is for the Braves," and hurls himself off the mountain. Suddenly the Red Sox fan yells "This is for everyone who loves baseball," and pushes the Yankees fan off the mountain to his well deserved death."
Should be an interesting week.

All I can say is with the post season history of Mr. Jeter, how can anyone be given the edge over him. I say this with all respect and fairness to Mr. Nomar.
BrysDad, Good pitching beats good hitting every time. I guess you are right. Wakefield outpitched Mussina for a HUGE RedSox win last night. Advantage Sox.
BRys Dad
Look at Nomars post season stats--they are quite impressive-- If I had one playing short for me and not the other, either way, I would be a very happy camper

The only thing being cursed last night...
was Wakefield's ball.
He was on...Mussina was not.
The big bats of the Sox are waking up at the right time. Their demeanor on the field last night showed me that maybe they learned something about how to behave from the Oakland series.

BigDude,
Pitching does beat hitting. What game were you watching? Wakefield outpitched Mussina duh.
Bosox fans, don't get too excited. There are most likely, 6 more games.
Tom,
I know about Nomar's stats but he still has to prove he can duplicate Jeter's success in the post season.

sorry bigdude. I misunderstood your posting. You are right, Wakefield did pitch better than Moose last night and Boston won.
Brysdad,
Did you read my post? I agreed with you. I said Wakefield outpitched Mussina. Duh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We're all even! As the Yankee fans chanted, bring on Pedro!
Brys Dad...
It looks like Wilson will play 3rd today.
That is one of the advantages I didn't agree with...Boone has not come close to living up to his billing vs. Mueller.
I received a call last night from New York enlightening me on the number of variations on the phrase Cowboy up...You must have heard them, too. They work for me.
Today, I hope both pitchers are on...
This is what October is all about.

Yes, the game lived up to the hype, that's for sure.
Down goes zimmer,Down goes Zimmer!
Zimmer needs to slow down,73 yr. old man trying to get to Pedro.+
Zimmer is lucky that Pedro just shoved him aside.
Zimmer take your medicine!

Should be a "great" day in Boston today-- Giants and Patriots in Foxboro and the Yanks and Sox at Fenway !!!
Something tells me that all police dept. days off for today were cancelled and some retirees will be back in uniform to cover the action.

Was there ever another batting champion who played for such a potent offense that he was hitting in the 8th slot?
Just curious?

Who could ask for anything more! Sox/Yanks game 7, Pedro vs. Roger for a trip to the WS. Both teams have played well and seem to be evenly matched. This part of the country is all abuzz about the game tonight. May the most deserving team move on!!!!!!!!
Hopefully for Red Sox fans the "real" Pedro will show up

Pedro showed up. Pedro outpitched Clemons. Little made the worst decision ever. Why do you leave Pedro in when you have Timlin and Williamson ready to go and they have been lights out all series? Is Little on Georges payroll???
Grady Little couldn't manage his way out of a shoebox. He made stupid decisions in the oakland series (bringing the infield in when you up a run) and in this one. It finally came back to bite him in the ***. He made Torre's decision to bring in Wells in the eighth not look so bad anymore!!
Do we need to put out an APB on BigDude?

Epstein said yesterday that they will be interviewing candidates whose names have not been mentioned in the press yet...look for a young, and perhaps inexperienced manager...All the 2003 coaches have been told they are free to look elsewhere.
Meanwhile in NY...Randolph will move to the Bench...Mazilli to 3rd <if he does not get O's job> Sojo to 1st and they are trying to convince Mattingly to take the hitting job, according to Newsday.

I think Mattingly would be a great choice--

Chill,
Started a new job 3 weeks ago and haven't had time to get on the web!! I think the Sox will go with Glen Hoffman. I really don't think there is much out there to choose from. He has Boston roots and is pretty young. I think Theo will go with the youth seeing how young he is!! Great move by the Yanks naming Mattingly hitting coach. Hoping that maybe Torre will get tired of George after next season and the Sox can woo him from the "evil empire." BD

I am glad you are just busy and not MIA...
Watch carefully. I think you are right about the youth....maybe too early to predict a successor at this point. It will be equally as interesting to see the Make-up of the 2004 Red Sox roster. Hang in there.

The rumors I am hearing concern Terry Francona-- and he apparently weants the job very badly
I see also that the Mets have a new pitching coach--Rick Peterson-- hope to meet him at the upcoming clinics in the area.

Now if the Mets can grab Tejada they will have a nice little A's subset.
I think the Sox are going to interview many...
and I feel that a few of the names who will surface later on...we will probably all be saying, Who?

Chill, I agree on the 2004 roster... Burkett was let go, and who knows how many others?? TR, I am also hearing now that Francona is a lead candidate. Whats up this? I hear the Sox are interested in A Rod??? That would mean Nomah to LA??? Love the hot stove talk... Keep it going.

The candidate this week is Joe Maddon - The Angel's Bench Coach.
He is known for his organizational skills and has been with the team for 10 years. He was talked about yesterday by Gordon Edes(Globe)...he's a computer guy...maybe he likes stats...maybe he would defer to a pitching-matchup stat sheet???

Heard today on WEEI that a 3 way deal is being discussed between Anaheim, Boston and ?. Didn't catch the last team. Nomar to Anaheim, A-rod to Boston and Eckstein to ??? Also heard Texas is wooing Roger!! Anyone else hear of these trades???
BD
I heard from a reliable source that this rumor is "nuts"
Arod has $189 million left on his contract.
And, Manny has $105 million remaining. Boston has said they will be spending more that they spent last year <$105 M>...but that's crazy.
Media driven off-season nonsense...
Lots of talk of dealing my boy Trot and Damon.
