Good question CD. Boston has picked up the momentum, even without Manny and injuries. I knew last night it wasn't going to go their way, Beckett is too experienced (and too good) and once Papalbon came in you knew they weren't going to score. He's amazing as a closer.

I was pulling for the Rays cause I like the youth factor and a Florida team (though most around here want the Marlins to remain the only World Champ FL team), and I was pulling for the Sox 'cause of ex Marlin Beckett and Lowell, and just because they are the defending champs.

Who said managers don't make a difference, Francona is the man, at least for the moment.

Either way of the outcome, it has been a great series, and Dad04 predicted Sox in 7. This long series for either one, will this give the much rested Phillies a chance to take the prize?
A vote here for the Sox.

The Rays remind me of years of watching the Sox-Yankees, with the Rays playing the role of the Sox. Whether it was Bucky Dent, Pedro staying in too long, or Aaron Boone, the Yankees always found the big moment and came out on top.

The young upstart Rays outplayed the Sox in the middle games. Out hit them. Out pitched them. Upton ran down everything hit into the gaps. The Sox looked worn down. It looked like the Rays would run away with it.

But, like the Yankees, who always had experience and history on their side, the Sox suddenly jelled to remind everyone that, hey, they had to be pretty good to get to this point in the first place.

But, if the Rays loosen the purse strings and keep this talent together, the landscape of baseball may be altered. Will the fans show support in regular season games? That may ultimately be the deciding factor.

Personally, I pull for a Florida team to reach and stay in the top tier. There is so much history at the lower levels (youth, high school, travel and college) that it only seems right to be at the pro level. And...it gives another reason to go visit.

I, too, agree with your heart and brain, CD. How does your pancreas feel? Wink

But Maddon's been making some ill-advised pitching moves, and the Rays have been making errors. Although I didn't think the Sox could lose three at home, the way they won that game Thursday night just seemed to throw a brick wall up in front of the Rays.

Here's hoping for a good game tonight!
To me there is nothing like a game 7. Everything on the line , no tomorrow , everyone is available the list goes on and on. Boston has shown us the heart of a champion. Most teams would have folded up tent and been gone by now. I think were in for a real treat tonight.

Regardless of who wins I think this shapes up to be a fantastic WS.
This isn't last year's team. This is an adventure. It looked like every key player would be back. Schilling and Ramirez are gone. Lowell is out. Ortiz and Beckett are playing hurt. We're watching a changing of the guard to Lester, Dice K (Beckett when he's healthy), Pedroia, Youkilis and Bay.

My heart is with the Sox. Losses like the one the Rays took in game five can be unraveling. But a team that can hit homers like the Rays have can change a game in a moment.
