I have been away for awhile and now that I have returned with something to brag about to my many "HSBBW Buddies" it seems as if there has been a major upheaval among many of the "old-timers". I hope for everyone's sake (especially new parents and players to this wonderful site) that those that have chosen to leave will eventually return and continue to share their wisdom and knowledge of the game for future generations. I know without the input and encouragemnet of OPP,BigHit15, and numerous others, my son and I would have been lost in the recruiting process. So guys,if you ever "lurk" here's a Big "THANK YOU" and I wish you and your sons ALL THE BEST!!
Now, back to why I'm here... My son got his FIRST college WIN as a PITCHER yesterday! For someone who hasn't pitched since HS, I am really proud of him.His new team has been using him as a reliever (he is the starting RF) and he has been doing real well. I just wanted to share this with some of my "old-timer" friends...I hope some of them are still around to share it.. thanks

Congrats to "The Duke" and his mom. I can't think of anything better than a kid who gets it done in the classroom and on the field.

Congrats also to Coach Artigues on setting a new school record. To quote my son who played there last year, "Artigues is a baseball genius, he is running a Div. 1 program at the JUCO level."

AREA ROUNDUP PRCC wins record 23rd in a row

THE SUN HERALD

Defending state champ Pearl River set a new all-time school record for consecutive baseball wins Tuesday with a 13-5,13-3 doubleheader sweep over arch-rival Jones in Wildcat Stadium in the MACJC South Division openers for both squads.

PRCC improved to 28-4 overall and 2-0 in league play, while JCJC dropped to 12-18 and 0-2. The Wildcats have won 23 consecutive games heading into Good Friday's division doubleheader in Wesson against Copiah-Lincoln.

Fourth-year Wildcat head coach Jay Artigues was elated.

"Setting the record was one thing, but the way we did it was the most positive aspect of it all," he said. "We didn't pitch well, but our bats won it for us. That's the way it's been all season long... a team effort.

"If we're slack at the plate, our pitching will come through and vice-versa. I couldn't be prouder," Artigues added. "Coach (Bobby) Glaze's (JCJC head coach) teams always play hard to the finish. They never gave up, but we beat them with out bats."

The Wildcats dominated in the early going, jumping out to a commanding 8-0 lead after three innings, but the Bobcats bounced back to score three runs in the top of the fourth and two in the fifth to cut Pearl River's lead to 8-5.

PRCC starter Craig Rodriguez (5-0), a left-hander who has signed with Ole Miss, hurled three no-hit innings before giving up two doubles, a single, and his only base on balls of the game in the top of the fourth to finally give Jones its first runs of the afternoon. After he walked Tim Hilton with two outs, a passed ball scored Akeem Lofton from third to make it 8-3.

The Wildcats left runners stranded at first and second in the bottom of the frame, then two JCJC singles and a Wildcat error in the top of the fifth cut the PRCC lead to 8-5.

Rodriguez, a sophomore from Sugarland, Texas, left the mound with runners at first and third in the fifth for right-hander Jacob Smith, who retired Lofton to get out of the inning.

The Wildcats bounced back in the bottom of the frame with four runs off a Richard Imhoff double, a walk, and back-to-back home runs by Ryne Lovdahl and John Wayne Donahue. Lovdahl's three-run smash was his fifth dinger of the season, while Donahue's solo shot marked a team-high eight homers for the season.

PRCC finished with 13 hits, led by Lovdahl's homer and double; while Donahue homered and singled, Hartel doubled and singled, and Martin Roark had two base hits. Imhoff and Winstead both doubled, while Hogue and Rogers had singles.

In the nightcap, Jones jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning; but that was all the Bobcats could muster. PRCC cut JCJC's lead to one in the bottom of the second, then added three go-ahead runs in the bottom of the third and never looked back.

The Wildcats scored another run in the bottom of the fourth, then a whopping seven in the sixth to end the game.

Brent Varnado (4-1) picked up the win in relief of starter Josh Troxclair, while Bobcat starter Dustin Cooke picked up the loss in his three innings on the mound.
