Brewers purchased at yard sale for five bucks
The sale of the Milwaukee Brewers was unanimously approved last week at the baseball owners’ meetings, with team owners unanimously approving the ownership of a 12-year old boy who purchased them for five bucks at a yard sale.
“I think it’s exciting for Major League Baseball to have some young blood with big, new ideas in the ownership ranks,” said commissioner Bud Selig, the team’s former owner. “Plus, we didn’t really have a choice. We’re just glad somebody was willing to buy them, because it’s not a very good franchise. None of us even know how the Brewers ended up at the yard sale, but we don’t care. We’re just amazed they were bought.”
The 12-year old owner, Matt Mitchell, said he bought the team on a whim when he saw it for sale in a neighbor’s yard.
“My dad had just given me 20 bucks for my allowance and I saw that the Wilson’s across the street were having a yard sale so I went and checked it out,” he said. “I spent 15 on a used Xbox game they were selling, and I had five dollars left and saw they had the Brewers sitting there so I thought, ‘Hey, why not?’ I don’t really know what I’m going to due with them though. I guess I just thought it would be cool to own a baseball team. Too bad they suck. Maybe I can trade them to a friend for a skateboard or something.”
