Bottom of seventh and down a run, what would you do?

Nine hitter leading off the inning gets hit by pitch (fastest kid on the team). Brings up the leadoff man a lefty and good bunter, no bunt sign and flies out to center.

Next batter ground ball to short forcing tying run at second and runner just beats the throw at first. Two outs three hitter grounds out to second and game over, never got the tying run in scoring position.

What ever happened to the art of laying down a bunt?

In an alternate strategy...

If he's the fastest kid on the team, why doesn't the coach give him a chance to swipe second. Then the fly out to center likely moves him to third with his speed with one out.

Ground ball to short probably scores him.

The way you have it laid out, the inning still ends without scoring the run, even if you bunt him over.
Gotta lay down the bunt. I might try the steal if there was 2 outs.

Flip the scenario around and what if it was the top of the 7th? Is the old adage play to tie at home (you have last at bats) and to win on the road still adhered to? For me, I would not have bunted if it was the top the 7th...as the home team has a huge advantage in a tie game in the 7th (or extras).
