We had a kid get hit with a ball after a kid show bunt and then take a swing dose this ruleing not ply to 14u baseball? the ump said there was no ruleing for it. I got this off the National by-laws and rule USSSA

8.07.L.1 Fake bunts shall be prohibited. A batter that “shows” bunt is committed to an attempt to bunt or take
the pitch.
Rule 8.07.L.1 Penalty: A batter who swings after “showing” bunt shall be called out and no runners
may advance.

This rule is implemented at the lower levels to prevent injury.....the showing iof a bunt brings the fielders in and they want to protect them from injury....

Usually I've seen this at the lower levels where they have other safety only type rules...(no head first sliding, no steel spikes etc..)

By 14U its usually gone as they play more "real" baseball....and the fake bunt/slap bunt is a viable legal deke/play....yet I dont have any USSSA experienece to call on....

So what was the result of the play?

It should have been a strike because the kid swung at a pitch that actually hit him. (That is always tough luck. Not only did you get hit, but you don't get to take the base, and you get counted for a strike. The worst is when it happens with 2 strikes.)

I presume you were looking for him to be out per the ruling you referenced.

USSSA Rule 8.07 only applies to games played using a machine pitcher. Similarly, rules in 8.06 apply to coach pitch, and 8.08 applies to T-ball.

So there is no USSSA rule concerning fake bunts at the 14 year old level.

I seen that, and was not to sure if it applies to the older or younger kids. I not to sure how it applies in T-ball. I don't think I every see it use in HS to majors? I have seen in in softball
