Both tournaments are being run the same weekend. I know Enrico personally and he does a terrific job running the CABA 15u World Series. I have been told the CABA World Series will have 60 teams in it this year. Many of the top programs from around the country will be in this event again this year. Enrico has been the heart and sole of this CABA event for over 20 years. As a member of the Crystal Lake community I'm sad that the tournament won't be in Crystal Lake anymore. = Edited by Moderator = Hopefully the USSSA tournament can be something but don't hold your breath. I would like to know where the Sparks, Seminoles, Braves, Top Tier, Remegades, and a few other top teams will be going. Both tournaments start on the same day.

CSG - It's much clearer now that I read the link provided. I asked Sox05 about the move BEFORE I read the link UsedToHit posted. At some point (recently???) I think they CABA site changed the location from "Crystal Lake" to "Northern Illinois". Also, the web site link on the CABA site is still for the event at Crystal Lake???

Our team is staying in Elgin, so I guess that's good.

USSSA will be run in the Crystal Lake area using the same fields that CABA has used in the past. 6 international teams are committed and could be as many as 9. It will be a more diverse field of teams than CABA has had in recent years.CABA in 2007 has 25 of 45 teams from Illinois. USSSA will hae about 15 of 48 teams from Illinois this year, the ret will be other states and foreign teams. CABA will be spread out from Woodstock to Elgin (I could not find a complete location list). It will attract a lot of the top Illinois teams but fewer elite national programs or international teams.
Gary Baldrin is bringing both his East Cobb Astros and Braves teams to the CABA World Series. East Cobb represents CABA every year. From the list of teams Enrico has put together CABA will have many of the "elite programs" from around the country entered. I'm not sure if CABA is having "Host" Teams in this years event but it seems that most of the top Illinois teams will be entered in CABA this year. It's too bad that both tournaments weren't scheduled on different weekends. It seems that USSSA and CABA want to battle it out against each other. I will say that Enrico has been the heart and sole to a successful CABA World Series every year. Now he has better facilites to work with this year after moving the event to other locations. The CABA World Series should be a good one!
I can say what is on their web sites right now.

USSSA lists 5 host teams, 6 international teams, plus the following committed.
Morse Mustangs - KY
Scorpions BC - MA
Mavericks - VA
WM Rebels - MI
Wildcats - WI
Rockhounds - WI
WSRC Hawks - IA
HV Renegades - NY
BC Bandits - MO
SI Bullets - IL
SO A's - MI
JPRD Bulldogs - LA
Upper Deck - IL
Houston - TX
Omaha - NB
Wichita Hustlers - KS
plus a lot of others pending

CABA is listing 5 host teams and nothing else concrete yet, just a bunch of states listed but no actual teams.

I've seen CABA in the past few years go from 5 international teams down to 1 in 2007, and the percentage of Illinois teams rise from a third of the field to over half in 2007.

EnRico always talks a great game but sometimes promises more than he can deliver. The tournament was as succeful as it has been due to his and the work or many many numerours other people.
I have been told by Enrico that there are 60 teams entered with a waiting list for another 10 to 20 teams. 2 Puerto Rico teams, 2 Panama City Teams, and Mexico for sure. The official list should be announced at the end of June. I know that one Crystal Lake team is entered in CABA and one is entered in USSSA. Your list has also mentioned many of the out of state heavyweights entered in CABA. Hopefully our top Illinois teams can give the East Cobb teams a run for their money. I will post the entire list of teams when I receive the list next week.
CABA will always have these top teams every year. USSSA can't compete with CABA at the older levels. The 16u CABA World Series hosted by East Cobb in Georgia, and the 17U World Series in Ohio are terrific events as well. Hopefully USSSA will also have a good event. Time will tell! Best of luck to them and most importantly to the teams and players that will be promised a first class event. These teams that travel and spend alot of money are the important customers.

bballdad1954 - As long as it stays civil it makes for good reading. But I can see that this one might get a bit out of control. JMO

I was simply asking an honest question and hopefully it won't turn ugly. So far so good!

You can add the Ohio Warhawks to the list of teams attending CABA.
No matter who ends up playing in whatever tournament, it will be a fun week of baseball around here. With USSSA doing 15's,11's, and 9's in a week long tournament, plus 13's and 10's for 4 days at the end and CABA doing 15's, 11's and 9's for a week, there will be around 200 teams in the area.

Now if we can just make sure it doe not rain that week everything will be perfect.

As far as CL and host teams
USSSA has CL Bombers, Cardinals, Babe Ruth, Cyclones, and LITH THunder.
CABA has McHenry County Hurricanes, McHenry Cobras, Woodstock Lightning, Huntley Raiders, and CL Cardinals.

Well said
The Napervlle Renegades will be sending teams to 11 - 12 - 13 - 14 - 15 -17 CABA World Series.

We are full supporters of CABA - Fran & Nancy Pell - and EnRico Heirman

EnRico, Keep doing what you are doing. It is a tribute to you and your World Series, that many Illinois teams want to participate.

For those who say there are too many Illinois teams, what difference does it make? The best teams rise to the top of the tournament. If they are Illinois teams, or others, so be it. The best teams make the championship rounds.

The only question I would like answered by someone in "the know". Is the USSSA tournament in Crystal Lake their organizations top tournament? I thought their Florida tournament was.

The difference is that the Illinois teams can play each other nearly any weekend they wanted to. Last year we held a tournament in CL the weekend before CABA as a qualifier. 16 teams were there. 13 of those teams were back the follwing weekend in CABA. Being able to play different teams from different parts of the country and spending the week interacting with their parents and families is part of what made this tournament succesful in the first place.

USSSA doe have an elite WS in Florida held before the CL tournament. The date of that tournament was moved forward this year to allow teams to participate in both.

Sounds like local roads, hotels, stores & restaurants will be jammed!

Regarding the large # of Illinois teams, I can see their point. We did a CABA WS a couple years ago and we had already played 90% of the tourney field in the regular season. It's fun to play new and different teams.
Thanks MSCLB
Do you anticipate most or many of the teams that are going to play in the Elite tournament in Florida to also play in Crystal Lake?

I can understand your point about playing local teams. I just want to play good teams, as I assume most teams do, no matter where they are from. All tournaments have some weak teams, but they are weeded(?) out early enough in the tournaments.

Example: the teams from Japan the past few years, have not been real strong. I can't remember the last time they went to the Championship round. So I would rather play a team like the Sparks, even though they are from Illinois.

And as CSG stated: Let just make sure it doe not rain that week and that everything will be perfect for both tournaments

I do not know how many teams will play in the USSSA Elite WS and the Crystal Lake National Championship. To early to tell and not enough teams lited for either tournament.

Japan was in the Championship bracket last season, but they were 2 and out at that point. In fact, they have made the Champ. bracket every year since 1999 except 1. They were the runner up in the CABA WS in CL in 2004.
There is nothing like playing a team from Japan.
Some interesting comparitive info regarding the two tournaments:

USSSA is $595 for 15U and $495 for 9 & 11 U with pizza and soda for players and coaches at the opening banquet included. EVERY other item is
voluntary, not mandatory. All teams are sanctioned so there is no sanction fee. Voluntary programs are $5.

CABA is $700 for 15U and 600 for 9 & 11 U. They charge two $25 CABA fees that both go to Enrico. Everything on the CABA extras is mandatory. Mandatory program at $12 must be purchased for every player and coach. A mandatory patch for every version of uniform at $3 per player per uniform. Mandatory gate charge of $65 for every rostered player. So if a player travels in without family they still have to pay the $65. CABA charges a $150 at large fee if you don't qualify to get in.

MCYSA/USSSA link; http://www.mcysasports.org/pdf/openform3.pdf

CABA link; http://cabaworldseries.net/pages/PDF/CABARegForms08.pdf

The CABA 15 U event for a team with 15 players with two uniform jerseys is a MANDATORY $2,020 and if not qualified add $150 at large fee. The USSSA fee is MANDATORY $595! CABA teams will travel all over, MCYSA/USSSA teams will use the same local fields as was used in 2007 when the tournament was voted tournament of the year!

Sox05 - Is the the list of teams for CABA posted yet?
all I can find on the CABA web site right now is this list of teams

15U

* McHenry County Hurricanes
* Crystal Lake Cardinals
* McHenry Sidewinders
* Huntley Red Raiders
* Elgin Rippers

*Teams scheduled from: Indiana / Illinois / Ohio / Kentucky / Michigan / Missouri /
Pennsylvania / Massachusetts / Georgia / Louisiana / South Carolina / Washington
Oklahoma / Iowa / Wisconsin / New England / Mexico / Panama & Puerto Rico

There is not a list on the CABA national site like there is for their other age groups.
I think the winners of the of CABA and USSSA should play each other in a three game set after both tourneys are completed.

I'll bring the coals (pre-lit ones, modern wonder!)..you guys bring the grill, some meat, buns, condiments, corn, salad, onion rings, baked beans, cole slaw, barbeque sauce (hot please) chips, chocolate milk, very large cookies, pop, beer, ice cream, candy and dental floss..and if anyone's got a hubcap for a 1975 Chevy Nova..mine popped off after i hit a big bump just before the Hoffman Estates exit on I-90..bring the hubcap too (got to fix that alignment issue, im all over the road).

Oh and a blanket so I can take a nap after a hearty game of running bases..cleats up.

Well I guess USSSA doesn't come thru with all of their talk, did they msclbr? 19 of the 33 teams are from IL. I thought that the MCYSA SPORTS didn't want All of these Illinois teams? 14 Non Illinois Teams for USSSA compared to CABA's 22

Total Teams: CABA 42 USSSA 33
Illinois Teams: CABA 20 USSSA 19
International Teams: CABA 3 USSSA 4
US - Non Illinois CABA 19 USSSA 10

RESPONSE MSCLBR?
The USSSA Open National Championship is a brand new class of tournament for USSSA. Their goals are high and are for the long term, not just for 2008. MCYSA (the local governing board for the CL USSSA tourney) The monies raised go to local baseball programs and scholarships for past local players. It is great baseball, great atmosphere, facilites all close together, great weather so far, and great fun to watch all these kids play. There was a great deal of behind the scenes fighting over which teams would go where right up until this week, and I will continue to take the high road and not smear any person or program. I'll only work hard to make it a memorable week for everyone in Crystal Lake.
