The Royals play their spring ball in Surprise, AZ which is located on the northwest side of the "valley" which describes the greater Phoenix area.
I live in the southeast valley. My son played for a Royals scout team a few years back and we made the drive out to Surprise every Sunday morning. It's 65 minute trip at 7am on a Sunday.
The facility is absolutely beautiful and very well maintained. One morning as we were waiting for the game to start on a practice field, some of the field guys showed up to make sure things were 'OK'. They immediately started talking on their radios, making wild gestures. I was seriously worried they were calling in an air strike or something worse.
A few minutes later about five more guys showed up riding various heavy duty apperatus. They ran to the field, where they immediately assessed the crisis, which was a single mushroom, having grown over night in the infield grass. They quickly devised a plan and removed said mushroom before anyone was seriously injured.
Those of us in AZ and FL who happen to live near these facilities are SPOILED ROTTEN.
