The USA Baseball Youth National Team picked up a huge win last night (Thursday), beating Cuba 11-6 in Barquisimeto, Venezuela. That puts the US in the gold medal game scheduled for Saturday. Opponent was still to be determined through play Friday.
Colton Cain picked up the win for Team USA, coming in relief and holding Cuba to one unearned run on three hits over four innings. He struck out seven and walked none. He also drove in a run with a sac fly when the US broke a tie game open with a six-run outburst in the top of the seventh.
Cuba didn't go quietly, though. A couple of US errors in the bottom of the eighth led to a run and loaded the bases. Cain then struck out the next two batters swinging to end the threat.
Congratulations to the USA Youth National Team.
