Class of '09 will start becoming official July 1.. Colton Cain has committed to Texas.. but he could go high enough in the draft to switch... jacob Morris is Az State.. any other commits..

I wonder if Patrick Palmeiro will go to Miss. State with the hubub with Ron Polk's assistant not getting the job and Polk going nuts.. "Taking Miss. State out of his will"....but dad Palmeiro really wants patrick to go there but dad played for Polk...

Any other early '09 commits?

Interesting -- I wonder when Ford had the time to travel to Arizona for a campus visit.

The Tigers did well at East Cobb last summer and many of their guys made strong impressions. Concerning offers, they need to occur on campus prior to 7/1 of their senior year.

Our guys played both the Tigers (without Cain and Harrison and possibly a few others) and the Mustangs this weekend (missing several of their players as well). The Stangs have a few very good underclassmen, including Shortall, Yarborough, and Ford, who was vacationing in Round Rock. Cool

The McKinney Marshals have a strong 2009 roster -- I'm sure those guys are attracting attention as well.

I am betting the young man from Justin Northwest with the big stick has a few of those homers. Wink

SWAC - I wouldn't exactly call it a low profile bunch Wink ...most of the guys on DBAT's 17 roster have been studs for a long time.

Okay Blog, I had sworn off this site until one of the Mustangs congratulated Jacob yesterday on signing with ASU. Fact is he has NOT COMMITTED ANYWHERE. Yes, he really likes ASU and took an unofficial, but no commitment. Please be careful about going public on commitments without talking to the player or parents because it could really hurt them with other schools. I have learned from experience that this is only a "rumor" site, but it could have big implications for some kids.
tigermama (and LIKELY not not much secrecy there.. I'm just having fun)

but the headline of post is morris LIKELY to az. state... i know everyone wants to keep options open so even if jacob was publicly saying he was going to sign with az. state it would be "nonbinding" on both sides... which we have all seen

...IF Colton has to sit out more this summer to rest his arm ... the Texas commitment could change if Texas changes the scholarship amount (which... like it or not.. is done all the time)

so i don't think any college coaches saw that jacob was likely to az. state and it meant much to them other than to make small talk...

In this case, I agree with tigermama. When PSIII was going through the process, teams assumed he was going to BU because he attended their Junior Day and the school showed interest. In reality, he was never "offered" there. I believe schools do read/hear rumors and jump to conclusions. WIth that said, shame on them if they let a good player go without doing their homework.

The "who signs where" talk is indeed intriguing.
PD I don't disagree with you much but do you really feel a college recruiter puts any stock into what happens or what is said on this site; especially since its a bunch of parents having a good time? If they do, then I would say they will not be a recruiter very long for that institution. Go to scout.com these topics are abundant.
This is a conversational site. People are going to talk and things are going to be said third hand. If as stated above, a recruiting coach is going to feed off info he receives from this site, then he will be out of a job very quickly. If a player, parent and school are taking care of their business, this site should have absolutely no effect on the process what so ever.

And that is exactly my point. Stop talking about things that are strictly rumor. It can be harmful to young men who are trying to make an informed decision. Having been through the recruiting process twice, I can tell you it is a very inexact science. I have first hand knowledge of Big 12 coaches who told players "Oh, we did not call you because we heard you had already committed to school A". It happens and it is a result of people talking about other people's children.
Natural is correct. Those of you with the attitude of "they did not do their job because they heard" have a very narrow view. DI colleges have kids from all over the country to choose from, not just ours here in North Texas. They will not waste their time on those whom they "heard" were interested in another school. There are great ballplayers in every state.
Stang,

No narrow view here. It takes two seconds to call a prospective athlete and find out if he is interested in school A or not. If coach B wants that player but comes to the HSBW and sees that he is interested in school A and marks him off his list, then no, the coach is not doing his job.

On this site, right or wrong, players are going to be talked about. My point is a Big 12 coach (or any other coach) should not be using it as a recruiting tool for or against any player. JMO

I'm not taking sides here, but I find this fact interesting. In DI softball (including most or maybe all "mid-majors"), every non-pitcher scholarship to be offered in 08-09 is already spoken for with "verbal" commitments at this time of year, and those commitments seem to stick. Top schools are going after commitments right now from top rising juniors (2010 grads).
