Calhoun Community College

Externally all appears to be going well. I have two kids who played for me last summer at Calhoun. Both very good players. The coach seems to be a good coach with a real interest in the players. Now be advised my information is limited to what I hear, I do not personally know the coach.

Thanks - but what do you mean by 'externally'? We are supposed to drive down to meet the coach in the next week or two. My son is thinking about going there.

Sorry about the delay in getting back. By externally I mean, the program is doing well and the community is showing a lot of interest and support. The community is very nice and just minutes from Huntsville.

Thanks Dad4boys - I guess we are going down in July to meet the coach and check it out. We've never been to Alabama so it will be interesting. Then he'll have to make the decision - the clock is ticking.

Did your son ever make that visit to Calhoun? If so how did it go and what did he think of the area?

I was reviewing the 2006-2007 roster for Calhoun and see two players from PA. One with a name very close to your screen name, JJ Hover RHP so I am guessing he is coming down south. As I will be trying to make a few of fall games maybe I will see him play. And I almost forgot congratulations!

Yes we did make the trip - a long (12 hours) but pleasant trip. And yes he is going there. We moved him in last weekend and it all seems to be going well.

They have been training/practicing along with doing field maintenance all week. He is sore, tired and extremely happy. The whole thing is kind of 'military' and he's loving it.

Are you really going to a few of their games? If you do that would be so cool. I, of course, won't be getting down there this fall, but I am going to try for the spring. I'll just have to see where he'll be in the rotation. They have a long home stretch in the beginning of March and that is what I'm shooting for. Thanks for replying - it's nice to 'know' someone down there!

I will be making a few games. I live about 30 minutes from Decatur. Best of luck to your son. A couple of the kids on the team played summer ball on a team I coached in 2005 (Not really so much coached as managed, we didn't have much time to practice.

I told him about this post and he said to find him and say hi. I think he'll be #15 and supposedly he will be pitching on Saturdays.

He's real happy to be there and really liking it. Even the grueling workouts and the heat! I keep checking and comparing the weather and you run about 10 - 15 degrees warmer than us right now. Let me know if you get to see him. Take care.

Dad4boys - have you had a chance to go to a game yet? I wish I could. My husband is going to make the trip in a oouple of weeks - so he'll get a chance - I'll be at home with the girls.

Sorry no. It seems the weekend games conflict with the team I coach or Calhoun is on the road when I could make the game, and I haven't had a chance to take off work to attend a week day game. I hope to make one soon.
