Let's give credit where credit is due! Please nominate any player who "Did his job" on the field extremely well this week.

This award will not be given out solely on stats, although consideration will certainly be given to athletes who were "in the zone" and had great stats. I am also looking for the athlete who does the "little things" right, displays leadership, and/or overcomes adversity -- whether from self, opponents, umpires, teammates, fans, bad luck, or whatever. Please reply with your nominations on here or through my website (now up-and-running) CoachTraub.com.

Winner receives a framed Certificate of Achievement, a free copy of one of the preview booklets (Approach, Focus, or Attitude) of my book, Finding Your Peak Performance with Mental Skills Training, a coupon for this book at cost, and a framed poem titled "Do You Want to Be a Champion." This award is UIL compliant.

Congratulations to last week's winner:
Casey Selsor of Reagan HS: he threw a complete game shutout agaist Smithson Valley.

Enjoy your job. Know your job. Do your job!

I hesitate to nominate, because I fear it will scare off other nominations, but I'll just hope it doesn't. I saw Grapevine win at SL Carroll in a huge game for them yesterday, and Bradley Padia clearly won the mental side of the game. I even asked him after the game what he was thinking about in the box and he said, "Nothing. I made a little adjustment in my swing beforehand, but wasn't thinking about anything in the box." Beautiful! It showed: In his first AB, he hit an oppo HR. Next AB: a HR to RF that I'd estimate at 435 feet. It went a long way. Third AB: double over left fielder's head. Fourth AB; 3B to RF. This last one probably was recorded as a single, as that's what it looked like with an error on RF, but the ball took a bad hop. The OF was properly charging to throw home, so I don't think it was a big mistake on his part. Bad hops in the infield are hits, so I don't see why this one shouldn't be, too (not that it matters).
Would it be fair (for lack of a better word) to nominate the entire Plano West team? Based upon your nomination criteria, I would say they have more than "done their job" well and consistently throughout the season. The entire team has risen to meet the challenge of being in the cross-hairs every week. Not every game has been a cakewalk for them, top to bottom someone has stepped up at one time or another this season to get it done.
I'd like to nominate my entire team for the 2 year turnaround here at Summit. We have broken every offensive team record already this year, school record for wins, baseball programs first playoff appearance and 1 win away from a district title. They have bought into the "mental side" of the game. This group truly has "given their best effort, one play at a time, and accepts whatever happens."
Wow, this is a tough week to pick a winner. Summit's seniors have led their team on an awesome ride, and I know Funneldrill does a great job teaching the mental side of the game down there. But Plano West is undefeated, so nobody's better than that! And over the past four years, I'd be surprised if there's a better track record in the Metroplex than what the guys at Arlington Martin have produced. Fantastic job to all three, and enjoy your playoff runs. In an effort to take the easy way out, I'll give the "weekly" award this week to Bradley Padia.
