Watch out for the "inner circle". Eek

By the way, I second KellerDad's motion!!! You don't contribute, you just whine and/or antagonize.

Not sure if this is a good idea or not.
This is a team sport and so many deserving players will be left out. Every kid made a play to contribute to the win, yet you cannot mention them all. The people who need to know how these kids did, will know. Just an opinion of an old man with no horse in the race yet!

PD, I just thought they were opening a can of worms with this and I stand by my previous statement (above).

Anyway, this will be my last comment on this subject and I will end it by saying good luck to all the players and their teams and congrats to any and all outstanding performances that go noticed or unnoticed in the future!!

To all you passionate posters,

I posted on here asking for nominations because there are people on here who see games (and know background information) that I don't see. It's that simple. I also ask for nominations through my website and on other websites. This week, I'm sending a letter to almost every DFW Metroplex baseball coach (and I'm working on softball) telling them of this award and asking for nominations. I will also promote it directly to the student-athletes I work with. This is a lot of work, and sending the ten awards I gave out last week was expensive, but I think it's worth it.

Obviously there are flaws with any system I invent, but the point is this: people talking about positive achievements is a good thing. Tangible awards for outstanding achievements are a good thing. Having a place to recognize outstanding performances that could get overlooked (less talented kid/unknown circumstances or adversity/whatever) is a good thing. I have no problem with Dads promoting their own. You should be proud of your son and his teammates! I will try to account for weak opponents, but I'll make mistakes. The more a nominator tells, the more I have to go on. Also, I simply assume people are telling the truth. I do plan to continue this award and trust that the banter will simplify. Also, I apologize for helping get off track this week by posting my two cents about pitch counts. I don't mind the conversation, actually, but do hope people will keep the focus of this award on the toughness of the student-athletes.

Thanks.

I don't have a problem with dads (or players) promoting their own (or themselves) as long as they are not pretending to be someone else in an effort to point out their son or themselves. It does occasionally happen around here.....being proud of your player is natural and welcome but pretending to be someone else to get your son's name (or your name) out there is just plain sneaky.

I personally would like to see more nominations for kids from N. Dallas or Bryan Adams but you won't see that for obvious reasons,

Put 'em up.

If your son has done well and your proud of it, put him up.

You'll find that most will applaud.

I'd like to see more from N. Dallas, or Bryan Adams, too.

There are some very solid players at Hillcrest HS...I am sure there are others at W.T. White as well as the rest of DISD...if you feel your area is not adequately recognized, feel free to tell us more about them so we can applaud them.

On Thursday, March 20th, it appears from the box score that Hillcrest pitched a no-hitter against Lincoln and put up 12 hits. Spencer Klein was the winning pitcher.

On Friday, March 21st Hillcrest had 22 hits and pitched another no-hitter against Spruce. Michael Hinojosa got the win. Way to go Michael and Hillcrest HS!

I would like to nominate Hillcrest HS for Week 2 MVP for their strong performance this week..they have played a tough non-conference and tournament schedule this year in preparation for their district games.

Why are you trying to "bully" me? Free country last time I checked.

Free country maybe, free to post what you want on this private website, not hardly.

OP,

You don't get it - there are more people who read this website but dont post than there are who do post. I am just posting what a BUNCH of other folks talk about. I am sure you don't care and that is ok. But one thing is for sure - you would never win the award.

It's about time someone said it...
I personally only see a couple of people taking shots and it's the same two all the time.

I attribute it to a person or team, or someone their associated with being on top and someone always wanting to knock them down. You know, kind of like the champions with a target on their back. Usually if your not good enough to do it on the field you resort to the only other way you feel you can accomplish it and that's a verbal assault. Just my humble opinion.

Oops, sorry nortexbaseball, this probably belongs in that other thread. Wink

Don't give in to the temptation.

Who are the adults on this thread? I'm becoming more and more of a fan of Joseph Conrad (I hope I didn't butcher his name) when I read this board. His message was very very different, I understand, but some comparisons can be made and... ya, not good.

This thread in its intended state is a good idea, but so are all of my pitches I throw and sometimes they end up better than others (had to get some baseball in there).
I'm throwing in the Rowlett Eagles for this dubious award for the following reasons:
1) 18-0-2
2) Starting three pitchers (yes 3) have a combined era of less than 1.5 and a 4th pitcher that is a reliever that has not given up a run (for a team that does not have any "big name Pitchers", they have achieved a lot).
3)Five players hitting over 400
4)Impressive defense, only seven errors committed in the past 20 games.
5)Best start in school history.
6)Head coach won his 300 game this month.

This is been a total team effort from player 1-20.
I will not name names as this team as a whole is deserving as everyone as contributed this year!!!!!!!

Fellow Eagles, I'm sorry but I could not hold our secrete any longer, RHS Eagles are playing great as a team.
I've been fortunate enough to see Rowlett twice this season and agree with Ed Sir that they are excellent (and under-appreciated by "the rankings.") Also, I like team nominations, as both good and bad mental skills are extremely contagious. Therefore, any team that gets on a "positive snowball effect" roll is a function of all team members, starting with the head dog. I'll list this nomination under Coach Carmon, but obviously any coach who wins is winning it for his student-athletes.
Week 2 nominees:

Caleb Whitely - S.A. MacArthur – Winning pitcher and 2/2 with GWRBI after coach wasn’t planning on letting him bat this season.

Frisco's entire team for tough win over Frisco Centennial.

Casey Selsor – S.A. Reagan – 13Ks, CG victory vs. Smithson Valley

Zach Walker threw a 6 inning perfect game and had around 10Ks. Went to three balls on only 2 batters and didn't throw a first pitch ball until the 4th inning. He also hit a double and got at least 1 RBI out of it.

Nico Taylor-McKinney North Senior right fielder
For the week’s 2 games:
5-8, 9 RBI, 5 runs scored, 1 double, 2HR, 2 walks, 1 stolen base

Trey Sorrells-McKinney North Senior catcher
For the week’s 2 games:
6-9, 6 RBI, 5 runs scored, 1 double

AJ Florence-McKinney North Sophomore shortstop
For the week’s 2 games:
4-6, 6 runs scored, 3 RBI, 1 double, 3 walks

Brendan Alvey (Sr. Keller Fossil Ridge) went 4-4 with two home runs, 7-RBi, against Saginaw.

Hillcrest HS team – pitched two no-hitters

Again, they're all winners, but I selected Zach Walker and Brendan Alvey as this week's winners. Vote for next week's nominees on here, and for the Mental Skills Player-of-the-Month on www.CoachTraub.com.
Thanks.
my mistake: I left out an honorary nominee:

Pitching two days after his father, Michael, died of a heart attack in the Dallas area, Preston Claiborne struck out three and allowed just a pair of singles over the final 2.1 innings of Sunday's contest.

"What Preston Claiborne did today was just really special," Tulane head coach Rick Jones said. "He had to have a ton of things going on in his mind but he really pitched well. That's why I'm such a big of a fan of his - because he is a team guy through and through, and he's as hard-nosed as they come.
