Hello again everyone! I have a quick question for all of you. Recently, I recieved a questionnaire, pretty much out of the blue from a college. I returned the questionnaire and recieved a Thank You Note and a business card from the coach asking me to call anytime. I'd like to be proactive and talk to the coach, maybe ask him a few questions about the school, etc. but I'm REALLY nervous and I don't want to come off as uninterested or having the wrong attitude. Essentially, could you guys provide me with some Do's and Don'ts when calling a college coach or just talking to one in general?

Yes, most players are not comfortable doing this for the first time. As TRhit says, relax and be yourself. It always helps to have your questions written out and what you want to say in your introduction. You have the best situation in that the coach has made the first move. So congratulations and go make that call. Smile

If you need help with some questions to ask, take a look at page 23 of the Guide for the College-Bound Student-Athlete. Ask one or two of the general questions and let the coach take it from there. Just remember to relax! Big Grin

Make sure you have done some research on the school. I'll never forget when the Georgetown football coach called my son. He asked him what he was interested in studying. My son said political science, and asked if their school had a strong department. The coach asked if he knew where Georgetown was, "No". They both had a big laugh after the coach told him Washington. After that all the calls were easy!
Many people to make a personal call to a coach to express that they are really interested in the school. However, you can call to just get more information, but you can usually find out information without calling. A personal call to the coach, I would think, is appropriate when there is serious interest in the school by the player. (I am not suggesting you don't have that, but that desire sometimes dictates the conversation). Good luck.
If the coach asked you to call, call. That means he has a big interest in what he has read on the questionaire. He has done this hundreds of times, let him lead the way.
Just make the phone call and don't worry about it, coaches know you will be nervous. Be honest when he asks you questions.

Good luck.
