EK6 - If you're not a HS senior, they cannot return your call anyways (by NCAA rule). You may want to try email as well. If you are a HS senior and you were calling the head coach, you may want to try the position coach too. If you're a HS senior and you've made many calls to a particular school and they haven't returned them, they may not be interested and it may be time for you to move on.

In any case, many of the college coaches are quite busy at this time of year. They're welcoming their teams back to school...maybe starting practices (usually afternoons), and its the heat of the recruiting season, so they may even be on the road a bit (I was at an event yesterday where many college coaches were in attendance).
Dibble, while you are right that getting a 1,000 calls would be annoying, the reality is very few parents and especially students are actually picking up the phone and calling coaches. I have met coaches that are simply begging for kids to call them because no one ever calls anymore, because they are afraid or don't know what to say.

Simply call the coach, tell them who you are, where you are, what you do, and that you are "possibly" interested in their program.

The coach will simply ask your grades, what positions you play, what tournaments, teams, showcases you will be playing in and then you can go from there, nothing more, nothing less.

You dont have to call up and say you are the next Roger Clemens. The phone call is simply to introduce yourself and get the ball rolling to the step in the process.
Nice post ghouse, too many parents and players are reluctant to initiate interaction with schools of their choice when thats EXACTLY what those coaches are hoping for. The parents/players just need to be realistic and understand that like a successful salesman the word "No" does come up...as well as the word 'Yes". You'll never know unless you make the attempt!
