CHC finished the regular MIAA "A" Conference schedule today with a win over Spalding to go 18-0 in conference and an unbelievable 30-0 during the regular season. They have put in countless hours of weight-room work, early morning batting and long after-school practices. They have played as a team all year. Good luck in the play offs.

Congrats!

MWR-VA, thanks so much for giving props to the CHC program. You have recognized their accomplishments consistently in the VA forum which is appreciated.

Mr. Carl Crispino, a Calvert Hall alum, has also given a generous donation to our baseball program which will be used to construct a new field. The hope is to have it completed by the fall so that he can see it to fruition. However, the boys see Mr. Crispino as far more than a generous financial donor; he has served as a terrific example of a man who lived a good life and is now giving back. The guys love when he is around them and are inspired by him. The baseball players at CHC all know that they will give back to the program and school, because of how much it has given to them. Players leave there not only better baseball players, but better young men. Look at the faculty at CHC to see how many alumni are now teachers. Look at coaching staffs, including the baseball staff, to see how many alumni come back to coach. See how many former players come back to watch and support current players and work camps for the young ones. The culture fostered there is far more than the facilities will ever reflect.

It is easy to point to all the bells and whistles terrific facilities provide, but truly it is the work ethic- on and off the field- that defines the Calvert Hall program, as well as most successful sports programs.

If you look at the seniors on the CHC team, I don't believe that one of them was "recruited" as we often hear about private school kids. These eight kids have played together since freshman year. Fresh/Soph team, JV and not one made Varsity until last year. They all earned their spots through hard work. The entire team has been just that, a team. It is not more glamorous than that, but it has been special. The kids are humble, focused, and they believe in each other.
