An infield fly is a fair fly (not including a line drive nor an attempted bunt) which can be caught by an infielder with ordinary effort, (rule does not preclude outfielders from being allowed to attempt to make the catch) and provided the hit is made before two are out and at a time when first and second bases or all bases are occupied.
interesting that you don't see this very often because with bases loaded, a smart pitcher or catcher should let the ball drop for an easy double play (which is exactly what the rule is supposed to prevent). On the other hand, this also explains why I can count on one hand the number of times I bunted with the bases loaded.
Well, it did happen the other day in MLB. Can't remember the teams but runners on first and second with maybe one out. First baseman crashes hard and is right there to catch the popped up bunt.
He let it drop, threw to 2nd for the force then they had R2 in a rundown for the double play.
