I usually pretty much disregard sites like berecruited and captainu. But I do have a question on how they work in one regard. Not sure if anyone has any answers on this.
My son has never joined or visited CaptainU. In fact until last night he never even heard of them. I knew of them from being on here but other then a quick glance over on their website never paid much attention to them. Last night my son received an email from them saying that a college coach "added him to his list", or something like that. My son would need to sign up to find out who it was. Obviously "money grab" lights went off in my brain, but I told him he could do the sign up but if they asked for a credit card number then we were not going to give it to him.
Anyway he was able to sign up and it showed him who provided them with his information. It was a local school that we have seen at a few exposure tourneys and that has sent him a request to fill out a questionnaire. It was a school that he would probably "fit" their recruiting profile.
I am guessing that the coach may have tried to search for his email address on captainu which kicked off an auto responder on captainu to send my kid an email trying to get him to join the site. At this point I am trying to figure out if I should have him finish filling out his captainu profile. I refuse to actually pay for their service as I think a lot of what they offer can easily be done without their help and that I would probably get better results then using a generic service.
Anyway, does anyone have any insight on how captainu may have connected my kid to this coach? Also, anyone see any downside to filling out a profile?
