I can only respond on how my son "cares" for his bats....They get thrown into his bag, bag tossed around from bus to car, kicked around in the dugout, thrown to the on deck batter and generally abused they way most HS kids care for them. Cold, hot, sunny, rainy, practice, games, they get used. (wood for BP and metal for games) BTW his bat is now 3 years old and he will be graduating to the next size this summer...I don't think we will try for a composite, will stick with metal.

BOF,
Your son and my son must be related. First couple of weeks he had his bats, he would wipe them down with simple green and an old sock, Never used the new bats in a cage. Now with a small collection of both wood and medal, I find them on the couch (can't tell how many times I've been goosed by a bat),in the entry or the landing of the stair well, his bedroom floor or on his bed. But, he is never walking around without a bat or ball in his hand.

As for care, wipe it down after you play to keep a clean surface and check for dings. NEVER use a good bat bat in a cage, pick up a old one that feels about the same for cage work.
