Watching a T-ball game.
Dixie Youth
Ball was hit in the air to F6. He reaches up to catch the ball, but when he lands on the ground the glove comes off his hand. (This was a great play from a 8 or 9 year old) Ball remains in the glove. F6 stands up and then picks up the glove with the ball still in it. Umpire rules this a catch, batter out.

The key with a catch is that the release of the ball is voluntary and intentional. In this situation, the glove and the ball together were not voluntarily and intentionally thrown to the ground, hence, this is not a catch...

Not a catch. The glove must be worn properly to constitute a catch. J/R has a caseplay where the force of a line drive rips the glove from a fielders hand, ball still in the glove - no catch.

In this game, though, at T-Ball level, I would have ruled a catch though, just as yours did
