Noticed alot of pro's in the " What do big leaguers use" thread using old school masks? most of these pro's are young whats the upside/downside from one style to the next? Hockey mask vs old school?

The hockey mask is designed for better protection. It provides ear protection obviously where the old style masks do not.
However, there have been tests done that show the old style masks actually provide better protection with direct hits to the cage area:

A lot of it is like everything else, personal preference.
