Hi,

Just curious if you know of many college baseball coaches have been giving their cell phone number out to their perspective athlete. Is it a common move? Should we be looking in to it as a sign or it is just a thing that happens here and there or too often?

Thank you

You are right, this is what the coaches that recruits do, they give out their phone numbers.

Did your son every get his evaluation? That is what would concern me more than getting the coaches number.

Still waiting.

No sorry, I just deleted it. Who cares about evaluation. Coaches are busy folks and with no budget. That school is Number 1 on my son's list both academically and sports. We will see what will happen. Going to their summer session in June.

Thanks for all your advises!

This is JMO, but why would you NOT care about the evaluation?  Keep in mind that programs (good and bad) run camps specifically to fund their programs, not very many  recruit players from their camps, unless perhaps they have been specifically invited to talk to them while on campus.  I would really want to know what any program felt about my son before I spent more money.  As I stated that is JMO.

Yes, coaches are busy, but if they are too busy to take care of something that you may have paid for, and asked for, then something just doesn't seem right. This has nothing to do with no budget.  Don't put all of your eggs in one basket because this is your sons #1 school, as most seldom ever end up attending.

I understand that you are new to this process, and I understand that most who are want to hear all the good things.  That's ok.

Good luck.

TPM - I agree with your opinion.  If I paid money at the showcase/camp.....whatever and I was promised an evaluation.....I want an evaluation.  If you do enough of these camps/showcases and receive coaching feedback that is the best way to determine if you are "fishing in the right pond".  If you are fishing in the wrong pond then you a wasting time and money that could be spent in a more productive way.   In summary, these coaches see thousands of potential recruits in a year.  They are looking for something that stands out.  As a player, I'd want to know if I stand out, and what I need to work on to improve to impress the next coach that sees me.   Simple as that.  JMO too.
