This came up in another thread and we decided to it deserved its own thread:

Having beers after a golf event, my son and I were sitting wtih Eric Dickerson, Seth Joyner, Mychal Thompson and another ex-NBAer Truck Robinson. Dickerson was passing around his just received Hall of Fame ring and the question came up:

Would you rather have a championship ring or a hall of fame ring?

Pretty lively argument. Also pretty revealing about what motivated the guys at the table!

So, let me pose the same question here: Would you rather win a championship or be in the hall of fame? Can't choose both.

Since I'm a ring collector and look at it from that standpoint, I'd have to say the HOF ring would be more valuable and desired from a collector's point of view.

The HOF ring isn't very appealing asthetically though. The team rings are much nicer.

From a players perspective, I think they would prefer the HOF ring as that is an individual career accomplishment rather than a team accomplishment that they contributed to over the course of a season. Of course if you have been a Yankee player for the past 10 years or so, you have 6 rings to wear from that period, 4 WS Championships and 2 American League Championships. That's alot of bling as the Yankees rings are loaded with diamonds. Do 6 rings outweigh the one?

If I'm a player, I'll take the HOF over a championship ring.
