My Son is a Tall left-handed pitcher.. his arm slot looks to be between 1 and 2 oclock.. He has tried a circle change. But to throw it he seems to bring His arm slot up higher. What is the best type of offspeed pitch for a lefty to throw while staying at a randy johsnon type arm slot.. He is fast and has a good curve but would like to add a third pitch

Thanks

You can throw pretty much any change from this arm slot.

I agree that he has to get his arm slot consistent or he'll tip his pitches big time.

Maybe try raising his arm slot for his FB (and curve).

HCBaseball, With his arm angle between 1 and 2 o'clock, he is in the range that most guys pitch from. Don't raise it......to raise an arm that is already at 1 o'clock, means you would be moving the arm to over the top in the 12 o'clock range and big leaguers don't throw from that position.

When someone tells you to raise your arm slot and he has never seen you pitch, nor has he ever pitched himself, then you should consider the source.

Work very hard on a grip that is comfortable for him to throw (literally a 1000 options). Then encourage him to throw fastballs with that grip.
Do not change his arm slot on the fastball and curve ball to appease the change, rather keep practicing fastball handspeed with the changeup grip. If you can convince him to throw his change like a fastball then hopefully the change arm slot will come back down into his natural arm slot. Send me a pm if any of this is lost in translation.
