Thank you for sharing that Most Excellent video clip of Phil Neikro. I will never forget all those games I saw him in as a child in Fulton County Stadium. That knuckleball was incredible and always had the hitters off-balance; especially after 90-95MPH fastballs from other starters. Peace, Shep
Shep, I am sure some who frequent this site would try to convince you that Niekro's knuckleball never really broke. It was all an optical illusion, you see. There is some explanation that someone who failed high school physics will tell you explains how the ball didn't really move. You imagined it all.
It's amazing how those illusions fooled the catcher, the batter, the spectators and the camera all at the same time and all in exactly the same way. Niekro was right up there with David Copperfield.
