Could I get some insight on this 17U team?

How is the coaching staff? How well would the program help to develop a pitcher? How many events do they attend?

I am just looking for some information that could help me out.

Also, if you are someone with a vast knowledge of travel teams in IL, could you PM me so we could possibly compare and contrast some teams?

Hmmm..

My son spent some time on The Sox Academy Team. He didn't play the whole year and didn't participate in the winter workouts. The Coach seemed to know most aspects of Baseball pretty well, but I think a pitching guy on the staff would have been a good thing.

In the Coach's defense I think it may have been his first team where he was the head guy and I think he was in the process of learning to handle parents and kids both. I'm sure at this point if he is still coaching a team he has matured. Money was a problem as to how people percieved what their spent money entitled them to. I guess if you spend a ton of money you expect your kid to play.

It seems like the money is a factor (selling Sox Tickets, etc.) with The Sox Academy Teams more than some others such as Top Tier where my son also played and it was a financial bargain.....the guys who coached the team were dedicated throughout the winter and they knew their stuff. And you didn't have to pay for it (the winter workouts) either.

If money isn't a factor, The Sox Academy is probably a great place to go.
I am on the 17u team our coach is Isaac Valdez very good coach he coached the 18u team last year that one nationals. Our other coach is Jiim Schmidt who is very knowledgable i believe he played some minor league ball. I know over the winter all the pitchers worked with the pitching specialist at the academy. As far as tournaments i believe were in the tc kenosha tourney, isu, siu fun in the sun, n'western, cincinatti, and a couple others. It is expensive but i think its worth it because you can go there and hit and workout whenever you want.
My son played on the white sox 16U team 2 years ago and had a very good experience. Obviously, how much your kid plays drives the parents satisfaction. His coach was Jared Foley and he did a very good job of letting every kid have a role. some kids roles changed game to game, but if the situation arose, Foley kept his word.
Of course, we as parents seconded guessed many things, that's the fun (challenge) of being a parent. Also, as a parent you'll be mingling with other parents who love the game like you do. Its great catching up with them now that we see them during the High school season.
But it was hard to complain because the kids respected him and his coaching staff (who were alot of fun to be around). There was some real characters on the team, but every kid had character. It was a great summer.
