The Redskins strategy was to "rope-a-dope" the Eagles or make them so tired from running up and down field that the Redskins would walk over them in the 4th quarter. Newsflash....It didn't work so well.
Just a guess, but I'm going assume the Redskins may revisit the "How to Tackle" and "Tackling is Essential to Winning Football Games" chapters in their team notebooks. Just think, these are the guys that made the 53 person roster.
As a Pac12 fan, I was wondering how this offense would work in the NFL. Pretty interesting first night, but the jury is still out I suppose as coordinators will begin to adjust over the season.
I'm no Oregon fan, but I always thought they were a lotta fun to watch. I assume Northern VA is a little tired of that offense after the past weekend (UVa and Redskins).
It will be interesting how NFL defensive coordinators and players adjust to that offense but I hope it's effective. I love a spread attack that uses space and athletes. What's great about an offense like this is you don't HAVE to have stud athletes - it just works much better with stud athletes. Create space and use it allows an inferior team to do certain things if a coach is able to make adjustments based on what the defense is doing.
I watched the first half, but not the second. It looked like men against boys in the first half. I've never seen defensive players so winded just a minute or two into the game. But, based on the scoring and stats, it appears Washington must have figured things out on defense in the second half.
Philadelphia offense got gassed. They can't sustain the tempo for an entire game.
At Oregon, Kelly could recruit the exact type of players he needed for his system. He also controlled their offseason regimen. Can't do that in the pros with the draft and the independence the players have.
But if anyone can get there over time, I think Kelly can. He has revolutionized the game
Philly ran 53 offensive plays in the 1st half. Only another 25 or so in the 2nd half as the Redskins offense finally got on track (well, sort of). The Redskins helped in turning over the ball in their 1st three possessions.
It'll get tougher for Philly as teams see more of this and will adjust. Not saying it won't be successful, but somebody will figure away to slow it down or stop it.
They did change the tempo is second half, not sure if it was because the offense got gassed or they wanted to start running time off the clock. I agree that it looks like this offense can work with many different players not just studs, but studs certainly help.
One commentator remarked last night that the skilled position players are the ones that get the most tired, the OL really does not get tired, because the Skill players are the ones running all over the place, different formations and plays etc...
Will be interesting to see how the Defense start to adjust....looked like one the Redskins started to dial up more Blitz packages they started to slow the eagles down a bit but then again the Eagles were not playing at the same tempo allowing them to call down the blitz packages to the defense.
No matter what as a long time eagle fan if you told me that the Eagles would run twice as many running plays as pass plays and still average 6 yards a play and score 33 points....I would have asked you what happen to Andy Reid
What happens when Vick gets hurt? The way he was getting hit last night, I give him 4 games before he hits the bench for injury recovery time.
Husker, Foles looked great in Pre season he might not have been able to make some of the runs that Vick made but he also would have made some of the open throws that Vick missed....the same question could be asked of Washington, Seattle, San Fran and many other teams...I actually believe with the three QB's the Eagles have, within this system, they might be better off than most NFL teams.....hopefully will not have to find out.....but not as worried, maybe I should be.....time will tell it is only one game and it is a long season will be interested in what adjustments teams will make
I would like to argue the points above, but I just don't have a dog in this fight!

Nice.....

What do you mean "if"? I believe he pulled a groin muscle sometime in the 4th quarter.
And yeah, I believe they slowed the pace down to start working the clock. I think it averaged out to 26 seconds between plays.
