The CICL is a good summer league for players from ILL and the midwest. It doesn't rank close when talking about the best summer leagues in the country. Most of the elite players in the country play in Cape Cod or Alaska. The best players in college when I played in the midwest went to the Great Lakes or Northwoods leagues. Might be different now but that is my guess.

Here is a link to CICL

Except for Cape Cod and Alaska, the competition is as good as it gets. It's no longer for midwest player's only. Plenty of elite players. My son's DuPage team had player's from California, Texas (Miles Morgan of Texas Tech could be a top 5 pick) and the East coast. Most college coaches at the better program's try to place the players as close to home as possible.

Short bus trips and very few overnight's.

The quality of playing fields is signifigantly better than the Cape, Alaska, Jayhawk, Texas or the Valley (VA).

Virtually all of the leagues have a certain parity these day's.

Most have a web site that you can get to from [ncaa-baseball.com].
soxnole, I’m with you. The CICL is one of the best college summer leagues in the country. LTBB47 give the CICL a second look. I will not argue that the Cape Code and Alaska are the best of the college summer venues. However, the CICL draws some of the best college players from some of the best D1, D2, D3, and JUCO programs in the country.

The Central Illinois Collegiate League, CICL, is a league sanctioned by the NCAA and Major League Baseball. It provides college students the opportunity to play amateur ball in the summer with wooden bats in a maximum 50-game schedule. It is considered by many to be the highest form of amateur ball. Some prominent alumni from the CICL include MLB Hall of Famers Mike Schmidt and Kirby Puckett along with Cubs television announcer Bob Brenly. The MLB is currently littered with CICL alumni, some well known. (NOTE: some of the above text was paraphrased from the DuPage Dragon’s website)

The following CICL Alumni are currently playing MLB;

Jonathan Paplbon – Boston Red Sox, AL April Rookie of the Month, Danville Dans applaude
Ryan Howard – Philadelphia Phillies, 2005 NL Rookie of the Year, Decatur Blues applaude
Neal Cotts – WORLD SERIES CHAMPION CHICAGO WHITE SOX, ISU, Quincy Gems clapping applaude ole
Jim Abbott – LA Angels, Chicago White Sox, Bluff City
Justin Knoedler – San Francisco Giants, Springfield Rifles
Dan Meyer - Atlanta Braves, Quincy Gems
Aron Rakers – Baltimore Orioles, Bluff City
Rick Short – Washington Nationals, Springfield Rifles
Kurt Ainsworth – San Francisco Giant, Baltimore Orioles, Danville Dans
Jason Anderson – New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians, New York Mets, Danville Dans
Jason Boyd – Pittsburg Pirates, Philadelphia Phillies, San Diego Padres, Cleveland, Fairview Heights
Bryan Bullington – Pittsburg Pirates, Quincy Gems
Matt Erickson – Milwaukee Brewers, Danville Dans
J.J. Furmaniak – Pittsburg Pirates, Quincy Gems
Warren Morris – Pittsburg Pirates, Minnesota Twins, Detroit Tigers, Danville Dans

The best part of all this is the Chicago area gets the opportunity to see some of the best amature baseball in the country in their own backyard, Lisle. It behooves you to get friends and family together and come out to Benedictine University and watch Dinger and the DuPage Dragons. Lots of local talent… good

Wait till the SPRINGFIELD RIFLES come to town on Friday June 16th. See you there…

soxnole, I’m buyin’ the first round!
