I'm not enabled to speak for all of Hokie Nation, but this Hokie has been overwhelmed by the support and encouragement of the Country, in particular the other Virginia Colleges and Universities. Candlelight vigils have been held at almost every college, big and small, in the state and the turnout has been huge. As much as I normally like bash UVA (in fun of course), the UVA community has been overwhelmingly supportive. Orange and Maroon Hokie signs are all over Charlottesville, and even the secretive "Z" Society painted an orange and maroon "Z". I won't be able to rag their graduates for a long long time. They are indeed a classy crowd.

I've been tremendously shocked and saddened by the many deaths, yet tremendously proud of my alma mater. The students have handled the barrage from the press with dignity and grace, and the quality of the students has shone brightly. Anyone doubting the future of this country should catch some of these interviews; there are a whole lot of bright kids, just brimming with character, coming along to take the helm. A lot of parents have raised themselves some fine children. I only wish there were 32 more Hokies around. The Hokie Nation will indeed never forget.

If anyone didn't catch Prof. Nikki Giovanni's short piece at the Convocation, catch a look at www.youtube.com. I don't think I've ever heard a more powerful presentation of anything in my life. It took her only about 90 seconds, but it will be talked about for many years.

Thank you hsbaseballwebers, and all the schools and communities that you represent. Go Hokies!

hokeone, thanks so much for the update. It is indeed encouraging to hear and see how the state of Virginia -- and indeed, the entire United States of America -- is rallying around Virginia Tech with words of comfort, prayers, tears, and loving gestures.

Many thanks for the youtube link. I had heard about the professor's speech and the resulting cheers, but I didn't get to see it until you provided the link. Obviously the Hokie Nation has much to be proud of. Our best wishes and prayers as you continue to grieve.

what a great observation ... I, and certainly others noticed too

other recent incidents thrusting the youth of our nation into media spotlight also served to reinforce that conclusion.

perhaps, simmering issues of the day could better be resolved if adults tapped into their wisdom, instead forcing ours onto them Roll Eyes

Only about 10% of the population is cruel, mean or whatever you may want to call them.

90% of our population are nice, good, caring people & law abiding citizens.

Unfortunate for me in my line of work I get see too much of the 10% sometimes.

There are a whole bunch of great people out there -caring people - loving people - people that want to help one another, this week has proved just that.

Even with all of our faults we still live in the greatest nation on earth.

Go Hokies !
Hokieone....believe me, support and empathy for VT has spread well beyond Virginia's borders! Smile I am currently up at Penn State for our weekend series vs. Northwestern. It also happens to be the annual football Blue/White weekend which is HUGE up here. Yesterday in downtown State College...there was a line that was four-wide and spread down a block and around a corner of PSU students waiting to purchase VT t-shirts to wear today to support the HOkie nation. It was truly a sight to see. The town is a sea of ORANGE! The baseball team will be wearing shirts today with VT colors to show support. Those are just two examples I can share with you....I am sure there are MANY, MANY more throughout our nation this weekend.

It really is just a small thing we can do to show support.....but hopefully it gives those in HOkie nation a little bit of solace knowing that so many care. God bless. Smile

I've watched ball last night and today as well. Many college teams and MLB players have shown respect for VT by wearing their colors or their hats. That is a very classy thing to do! Bless all those that step out of their own worlds to honor and remember those at VT.

Also, the VT baseball team. Did everyone see the clips of them placing baseballs before the game at each of the victim's small memorials that had been created. Very touching!
